    WHAT WE PULLED

    Base - 75/150 (50%)
    Rookies - 27/50 (54%)

With the success of Prizm in basketball and football, Panini figured a third go-around was in order. And to make the sports card calendar even more confusing to collectors, this is a 2012 product even though it released after the 2013 MLB season started. The base cards are offset by a metallic background on a shiny, foilboard card. The first 150 cards in the set are devoted to current and retired players while the final 50 cards are for rookies. Panini does not have a MLB license, so they cannot put any team logos on the cards. It seems strange as some of the cards do a great job of hiding this fact, while others are completely noticeable.

    Prizms (3)
    Brilliance (1)
    Dominance (2)
    Extra Edition (1)
    Rookie Relevance (2)
    Team MVP (2)
    Top Prospects (1)
    USA Baseball (4)

A very popular refractor set among collectors, Prizms have been a hit since appearing in basketball. While some of the interest has cooled with baseball, the hobby-exclusive Gold Prizms (/10) remain a hot commodity. Along with the refractors, you will find a mix of seven insert sets. Almost every pack will yield an insert of some sort as they fall around every 4:5 packs. There is a variety of sets devoted to rookies/prospects and others to veterans/retired players. USA Baseball is honored as well with its own set. I had a quick smile of nostalgia when I saw the Team MVP set as I immediately went back to the days of Donruss Baseball in the late 80s-early 90s and the MVP insert sets.

    Cody Ross Autograph Redemption

    Jarrod Parker Rookie Autograph

Each box will yield two autographs on average. While there are signatures in some of the insert sets, the main set contains 54 autograph subjects among the veterans/legends and 12 rookie subjects. Keep your eyes open for Prizm Refractor versions that are numbered to 25 and less.

    FINAL THOUGHTS

    Base - 4/5
    Design - 5/5
    Fun - 3.5/5
    Value - 4/5
    Rebuy - 3.5/5

    Total - 20/25 (80%)

A redemption card for a Cody Ross card? Really?

I was thinking the same thing. It's bad enough Panini doesn't have the MLB license to use mlb logos and then they insert redemptions for guys like Cody Ross ??? Thumbs down.

I always loved the Extra Edition sets and it is a shame to see where they have went with them owning the brand.
