i have never purchased a card online without seeing a scan. esp since my #1 want is finest refractors. i want it centered and without a refractor line. right now on ebay thee are 4 or 5 gold refractors i need at really good prices but have no picture so no sale as far as i'm concerned. you can easily get a multi-function printer now for $100-200 that has wi-fi. you can scan a card and immed save it to a laptop, ext drive or whatever you have on the network or even an email addy if you want.

I believe a lot of the people that don't post scans do have a scanner but choose not to use it on forums if there is no intention in selling their cards and they only scan cards they sell on ebay. That might be part of it. I admit to being lazy with my scans but that is b/c I keep almost all of the cards I pull and those I sell or trade I do it in person with people I know.
