    Advice for selling sets?

I am in the process of selling off my collection, which is mostly sets. I have had limited success so far. Do you have any advice for selling sets? Perhaps you have some tips fo marketing or shipping. Should I keep them together or break them up? If so, how should I break them up? Here is what I have and what my thoughts are:

2000 topps team USA Side by Side refractor/non-refractor set (complete set SS1-SS12 - going to sell as a set)
2000 topps team USA Side by Side refractor/refractor set (missing SS5 Vin Baker/Dawn Staley)

2001-02 topps chrome refractors (missing Tony Parker RC) - will probably sell in lots of 20 or 30 by card #

2002-03 topps chrome refractors (missing Yao Ming RC) - " "

2002-03 topps chrome white refractors/249 - missing Yao Ming RC and a few others - plan to sell in lots of 18

2002-03 topps finest - may sell base set with GU together in one lot and auto. RC's in separate lots

2003-04 topps finest (missing Carmelo and Lebron RC's) - may sell base set with GU in one lot and RC's in separate lots

2003-04 topps chrome refractors (missing D. Wade and Lebron RC) - may sell base set and RC's separately

2003-04 Bowman Chrome set (missing D. Wade, K. Heinrich, and M. Banks auto rC/250) - plan to sell as a set

2004-05 Bowman Chrome set (missing S. Vujacic and D. Harrison auto RC/250) - plan to sell as a set

The problem with selling sets is that there is a limited market for them. More people would just want the stars and whatnot from the set. The pro of selling the set is that you get rid of it all at once though. I don't really know how popular refractors are in basketball but maybe if you break it up and list the most popular card or player from what you have you can kinda gauge interest of what the others would bring. If Jordan brings in $10 then you probably aren't going to get much for others that are common players.

Thanks for your reply. You hit the nail on the head. Most people just want the star players and not that many people want sets.

Yep, that is the sad truth. I love my completed sets and want to hold onto them. Good luck with selling off your collection.
