Very cool Story about Vinny Magalhaes

So those of you who saw my 2013 UFC Knockout case break posted might have noticed that I pulled a Vinny Magalhaes red ink 1st auto 1/15! I put it up on ebay along with the other good cards from the break to try to make some money back that I spent. Well I got an offer earlier today but wasn't quite as much as I was looking to get for it so I told the guy I was going to hold out for a few more days to see if I got a better offer. He basically said for what it's worth Vinny Magalhaes is a friend of his and he was trying to get the card to start a little collection for him and his son. I thought that sounded cool but was obviously a little skeptical so I told him I'd get back to him in a few days if I didn't get a better offer.

Well later tonight I get a message on ebay from a user named vinnymagalhaes asking if I'd trade the card for an autographed pair of his gloves. I'm thinking, that sounds pretty cool, but I'm still skeptical so I ask how I know it's really him. He says well you can follow me on twitter and I'll message you from my verified account so you know it's me. And he does!! How cool! He was really nice and appreciative about me being willing to trade the card. I get to help him start a collection for his 2 year old son and I also get a cool pair of autograph gloves. Thought that was awesome! Seems like a real nice guy and even humored me when I asked about training with Chael. Vinny said he's a lot better on the ground than people realize, just has brain farts when he fights, lol.

Anyway, I know others of you have mentioned selling cards to other fighters before and thought you'd enjoy this story. Definitely made my day.

I have a friend here in Canada who is friends with Vinny...I hear great stories like that about him all the time.

Awesome dude and always a pleasure to interact with. Its always nice to hear about athletes giving back...even if its in the form of taking the time to interact with some fans.

    Thanks for sharing!

That's awesome. I feel like fighters really get it. More then any athlete in other sports. They take the time to really get to know their fans. I have a cool story involving Chael (Which, to ruin his image, is the nicest guy you'll ever meet) that will be a story I will never forget. You just don't hear stories like yours or mine in other sports. That's why I love MMA.

Yeah, you're right about fighters interacting with their fans more than any other sport it seems. This is why my focus in what I watch and what I collect has shifted so dramatically to MMA over the past few years. I think the discipline from martial arts and wrestling backgrounds just really breeds classy people as evident by the vast majority of MMA athletes.
