Panini Peek: 2012-13 Intrigue Basketball
Let the intrigue begin. In late August, Panini America will introduce the all-new 2012-13 Intrigue Basketball, a uniquely contemporary NBA product that delivers a diverse selection of autograph and memorabilia cards — with the possibility of multi-player patch and tag-swatch cards — and a 100-card base set bolstered by 15 different insert sets.
Configured in two-pack metal tins, each tin will deliver one six-card pack of Intrigue cards and a second five-card pack of Intriguing Players, a 200-card set-within-a-set concept that features 10 different versions of the NBA’s 20 best players.
A superstar-heavy release, 2012-13 Intrigue Basketball boasts a bevy of autograph and memorabilia chase elements, including:
Immortalized Autos: Find the league’s most historic basketball icons in this gorgeous 50-card autograph insert with Gold and Platinum parallels.
Impact Rookies: Chase the league’s most outstanding rookies with this sharp autograph insert.

Looks nice but these "tins" sound expensive which it shouldn't be for a new product like this

It's becoming a joke really. I'm not sure if they have to make up for last year or what but the it seems that quantity is trumping quality.

Agreed. Not saying any of their sets are completely and utterly horrible, but it's sort of like the same average thing after the same average thing this year. I am hoping Panini is a little more conservative next year.

If you believe him the guy who owns Leaf said that because Panini so overpaid to get the NBA exclusive license that they basically have to release tons of product to break even and turn a profit on it.
