Ebay fees and Paypal fees certainly take a bite out of your profit, but that's not really what shipping and handling is intended for. As a seller, you take those fees into account when you figure out what you are selling your card for. I know this is an old subject, I only bring it up again because I have seen many sellers recently charging anywhere from $3-$5 for one simple card, and that is just plain wrong.

What I think stinks is that it's impossble to sell commons and cheap inserts on ebay without "giving" the cards away. I don't think you should charge it elsewhere, I agree with that, but there should be a place where you can sell your commons for a quarter or 50 cents or whatever and be able to actually see that quarter/50 cents and not give it to ebay.

no maybe you don't understand, shipping is auctual shipping and handling is what you charge, usually it is the fees that come with doing business, while I would really love to sell you a card and all, but why should I have to take a loss on it when I still have to pay ebay and paypal...

When you walk into a retail store, even though you don't see that they charge you shipping, they really do, it is in their prices for CC purchases and what it took in shipping to get the product on the shelves.

Now for the arguement, it is hard to price the card on ebay, because you have all these sellers that will price their cards at 1 cent, thus undercutting anything you are trying to do, I would be very happy if I could low book on any card because of this.

The only thing I will say is factor in the price of S&H with your maximum bid. If you want to spend $15 max on an item and the S&H is $3 then put in $12 as the most you will spend on the actual card. The only other thing is to not bid. I am sure the item will come up again with someone charging less S&H. You make the choice to pay the S&H not the seller. Maybe after a while they will lower there rates when they notice the number of bids on their cards decreasing.

Gio, I understand to an extent, what you are saying. But, as you say, the costs of shipping and handling store items are actually hidden in their prices, as a cost of doing business. Which, is my point exactly. As an Ebay seller, it is a cost of doing business on there, along with the fees. If you can't afford these, then don't sell on there. Believe me, I hate all of the fees, especially when Ebay gets you coming and going, and then PayPal grabs a bit more...I actually just do what John said. Figure the cost as a total, and just figure shipping is part of the sellers profit. If it's too much, I don't bid.

One thing about Ebay...that "once in a lifetime card" seems to always come around again, sometimes even that same day!

If we are talking about cards then it is no way going to happen unless you put it in your handling...

how many cards go for full book, very few

now if you are talking about pots and pans then it is different, you can figure out all the costs in your opening bid.

it is a 2-way street, the difference is at the gas station when you get that bottle of water, for instance you are paying for the CC merchant account whether you pay with a CC or not...but I don't or have heard anyone complain about that.

Most of the time shipping is reasonable. I wish there was a standard amount though. Once I bought three cards for $1.00 each from a Hong Kong seller. I knew that shipping would be about double the U.S but he charged even more than what he was stated in the auction. I don't think profiting off shipping is right. I live in Canada and have bought a lot off ebay but it is expensive to buy in U.S.$ and when you add shipping on the savings usually aren't much.
These are the reasons the stuff off ebay that I buy is mostly stuff I can't find elsewhere.

    it's all about profits.

as long as the sellers have your money, they don't care.

Now, if you are in a deal involving thousands of dollars, that is different.

But, for $20, $30..... do you really have the time to sue the other person?

It costs about $40 just to file a claim in court...and that doesn't include other costs

I sell quite often, as I stated. Bubble mailers, which are a must when you pay for a card (I think), can be had at Staples in packs of ten for around $3.50 (.35 each). I can't tell you how many cards I have bought recently, paid $2-$3 "S&H" for, and received the cards in a top loader, inside a regular envelope, with a .37 stamp on it. The cards usually receive some damage that way, because of the movement during shipping, and the fact that letters are handled differently by the post office than bubble mailers are. I complained to the sellers in a few cases, and usually worked out a solution, but it just seems to me that more and more people are using shipping and handling lately as just extra profit via laziness. Not a new topic I'm sure, but one that really bothers me lately. I actually ask a seller now, if the card is expensive enough, before I bid, how he will ship it. Any thoughts, or any related stories about this?

When shopping on Ebay, I take s&h into consideration when buying cards. I hava a good idea of how much it would cost to ship cards so if the item price plus the s&h comes up more than I am willing to pay, I will pass on the cards.

im still sticking to my idea... since ebay takes so much i make me price on s& H higher and it evens out... i get a lower bid on my items but mkae the same amount meaning i actually make more profit since ebay doesnt take as much out.... no matter how a buyer looks at it they are paying the same and the seller is making a little more instead of ebay,... it may be just me but i dont see how that is wrong
