    Confused

    Hey all:
So I have been thinking about something recently and wanted to get everyone's opinion. A little background...I collect Marty Brodeur and Travis Zajac in hockey and Ozzie Smith and Enos Slaughter in baseball.

So first off I have been looking at my PC and the card companies. I look at how scour to find this patch card or this auto card or whatever. And some of us, even me, would try and find those limited print parallels of cards. So my question here is what is the point? I mean if we have one jersey card or 100 of the same arent we basically getting the same thing? To me it is even worse with base parallels and such /5, /10 etc. What is the true difference between the base and the base parallel in all truth. I just dont get it much anymore.

Then the next issue I seem to find is less and less people wanting to trade or to buy at a fair price. I have made 3 trades this year. I have a nice and organized tradelist and do not want the world for my stuff. I am totally fair. Recently I made a sale thread for some of my high enders. I made two sales. I had all my high enders under the average Bay final bid and DID NOT EVEN CONSIDER SHIPPING! I am willing to deal but you arent getting a 1/1 with an emblem and signature on card out of a high end product for $10 and then I foot the shipping. I mean really. What happened to the hobbyists? The ones who likes to make fair deals. Where are the ones who did not nickel and dime you since each party was getting nice PC stuff?

I guess what I am looking at is the potential for the end of my card collecting career. I thoroughly enjoy the hobby. That being said, I cannot stay focused when I make one trade every other month, cannot sell cards at way better price than you can buy them on the Bay, etc. Problem is that I enjoy seeing my PC grow. But I just dont know if it is worth it.

    Thanks for any feedback,
    Dave

Selling on eBay is always better than on here but it does seem like trading has become more difficult. People only want the new flavor of the week which means people who don't buy new stuff are left out. I also think the rising cost of shipping has deterred a lot of people from trading.

Dave, the only thing I can comment on is auto's. I'm mainly an in-person auto guy on some type of memorabilia so when it comes to cards I don't care if the auto is on a /1, /100 or /1,000,000. To me, an auto is an auto is an auto. So I guess I'm not much of a card guy. The only thing I can say about jersey cards is a 2001 jersey card would probably not be cut from the same jersey as say a 2004 or 2005 card. So there is a possibility that the player may have actually hit a home run or went 5 for 5 in one jersey and not the other. Just my .02

I totally agree about numbered cards. If they aren't that different, there's little point. It may be a minor nicety but not much.

As far as people not being fair in deals, don't take those deals. The more people take those deals the more they will try.
