My Latest Success
After being out of the hobby for a few months, I dipped back in to start a new project where to get players from the 1940's-1950's as well as some perspective on events that happened in their career.
Inscriptions are:
#17
1948 Dodgers 1959
League Leader 20-6 1953
World Series 1949,52,53,55,56,59
No Hit Giants 5/12/56
No Hit Cubs 6/19/52
The questions I asked him were:
-What was Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Duke Snider, Pee Wee Reese, and some of the other players like?
-What was the 1955 [World Series] team like?
-What was the transition from Brooklyn to LA like?
"Hello Austin
Thanks for writing
I was fortunate enough to have many good teammates - Jackie Robinson, the most dedicated and ... players to ever play - Duke Snider was my roommate for 10 seasons - Campanella caught me for over 1000 innings
In 1955 we went wire(?) to wire(?) I won opening day, and Johnny Podres won the seventh game in the World Series - Finnally we got a championship for Brooklyn fans.
"The 1958 Season opened in The Coliseum in Los Angeles - I was [the] starting and winning pitcher vs The Giants - almsot 80,000 attendance. The crowd weren't as loud as 30,000 in Ebbets Field Brooklyn.

I got a ball from Erskine about 3 weeks ago and it looks pretty much the same with all the inscriptions. By far one of my favorite balls so far. Congrats on yours!!

He is a wonderful signer. I actually was able to have him sign one of his books in person for me many years ago. He was wonderful IP and the book is a good read. Carl also become a college baseball coach after he retired. I had the honor of speaking with a gentleman who used to play for him. The way this man spoke about his coach and the respect he has for him all these years later tells about the type of man he is. What a true ambassador of the game and a baseball treasure he is. Congrats on the wonderful success from him.
