question on 8x10 autos
will be going to a steiner sports signing in july and was wondering if i should just print out my own 8x10's with my photo printer or should i buy the ones at steiner from the day of the show
is the value of the item affected if it is not an officially licensed mlb photo with the holograms and stuff?

I dont think it raises or decreases the value either way as along as its a high res photo, you should be good.

If you are going to spend the money on a Steiner signing, I'd go with their photo or a photofile

Agreed. While I usually get my 8x10s printed, if spending the money that Steiner charges, I'd want the nicest possible photo.

The only risk with walking in there naked is that if they don't have a photo you like then you might be screwed. I'm pretty particular about the photos that I get signed... what uniform they're wearing, what position they're in, fielding/hitting/dunking/shooting/etc.
I only bring it up because I've gone to signings before and the selection of photos was terrible. On the other hand, I've gone to signings where I brought my own but then was very happy with the selection they had and ended up buying one of their photos anyway.
It won't affect the value of your item either way (as long as it's a quality photo and not a cheap print-out)... but I would suggest printing your own then being prepared to spend the extra $5 for an 8x10 at the signing if they have one you like. That way you know you'll definitely have a photo you like better.
With all that said, I've never attended a Steiner signing so I can't speak to what their on-site selection is like, but you gotta imagine it's pretty good.
Another example: I went to a Cal Ripken Jr. signing about 6 months ago. I knew I would be paying a ton (he's my all-time favorite player) so I made sure I had the perfect photo professionally printed well in advance. I showed up and they had some nice options for sale there but I was happy that I had printed one because I liked it better than all the ones they had there.

I would go with PhotoFile first and see if they have something you like. Even with shipping, one of their in-stock photos is cheaper than other places.

I have done one Steiner autograph show and was very disappointed. It was a Hockey legends autograph show at Iona College where I drove four hours to attend.
I came somewhat prepared to see my favorite player of all time, Mario Lemieux. I bought an 8x10 prior to the show, but waited until I got there to purchase a hockey stick. Well I get there and it's in the gym with a couple of vendors. Panicking because the vendors were limited, I had to buy an authentic jersey (more than I wanted to pay) because nobody had right handed sticks for sale. Even more puzzling, was that nobody had Paul Coffey 8x10's, so I ended up getting a left handed hockey stick for him to sign.
I partially blame myself for not being more prepared, but I thought with a HUGE hockey autograph lineup, very popular business (Steiner) and being in a college gym you would have no problem finding anything from multiple vendors. Furthermore, there workers always tend to rub me the wrong way. They appear to have a sense of entitlement bc who they work for.
With that being said, I would be prepared to bring what "you" want to get signed. Don't rely on someone else to make the decision for you. GL.

Remember when printing at home although the photos may look great now depending on the ink and paper they may fade over the years!

I've never run across this so I may be wrong in thinking that some players may not sign a photo that is not licensed. I have seen and heard of some players that will not sign an item of a specific team. With that being said and was stated I would get a photo that you really like beforehand and as was also mentioned on quality paper. I wanted to get a 16x20 of Roberto Duran at an upcoming TriStar show but they are only selling 8x10's through the mail. I have been to signings where they only have a b&w or 8x10 when I've wanted a colored 16x20 signed.

Don Larsen comes to mind with cards in the aspect. I had a situation with him when he was only charging $5 per TTM card, i sent two cards with $10, Returned one card signed & a $5 bill with a note saying " If i wanted the other card signed it would be $15 because it was produced without his authorization ( unlicensed ). Just sharing because like Rick said about the unlicensed photo, If players do that with cards i would imagine some would have that same mind set with photos.
I thought i read on here once that a member sent acouple 8x10's to an athlete & the player sent a note back saying they wouldnt sign them because they "Stole" the image from them? Maybe it was a different site. Anyone else remember that?
