difference between autos
whats the difference between autos on the card and autos on the sticker. I mean, I know that obvious answer but why does some ppl make a big deal about that? Which one is most prefered? And Y?

Most people prefer autos on the card (I think). They look better, are less likely to fade, peel off, etc. Plus, the players actually handled the card, they didn't just sign a sheet of stickers.
Personally, I like the autos on the card, but I'm not too picky.

I definitely like an auto straight on the card.
I think that the stickers detract from the look of the card.
Upper Deck has done a pretty good job with the 2005 UD Legends with the clear sticker.
I like that the player handled the card as well.
I will take a sticker, but I spend a lot of time searching and hunting for an auto right on the card. I actually track on my spreadsheet whether or not an autographed card from a certain player is a sticker or on the card. If the auto is a sticker I am still hunting for an auto right on the card.
I think that sets that are still on the card are premium to me. I love SP Authentic and Ultimate Colection.
Just my opinion.

Yep, the autograph clarity says it all.... Theres a better chance the auto is not a perfect piece when signed on a sticker.
I personally prefer the signed on card autos. But I could care less if thats what I get. As long as the signature comes to me in good shape.

sticker autos are flat out garbage. while all the above mentioned negative factors are true, an unstated problem is that all these sticker auto cards flood the market and reduced auto values.
with on card autos, at worst a company is likely to give a guy a couple variations of cards, which at most equal a couple thousand sigs....then when they QC the cards, a bunch get tossed for damage.
With stickers, the manufacturer will give a player 500 sheets that have 20 or so signing spots in one sitting.
Unfortunately the only way those things will go away is if people stop buying them. I'm sure they're a lot cheaper for the companies to contract, plus they can use the same stickers on different sets for years, until they run out.
Finally, sticker autos force the players to sign much smaller than if they had the card in their hand.
for those that like sticker autos, why not just lobby the companies to insert autographed toploaders....then you can have the best of both worlds. an athletes sig that allows you to change out the card when you get bored.
Or do it yourself, just peel the sticker off the card, and stick it to the top loader....then mix and match til you turn blue.

i agree...sticker autos suck. i think in the long run, sticker autos arent gonna hold their value as do the on card or cut autos. i have even seen a number of sticker autos on the wrong card...(yao sticker auto on kirilenko card)...thats just stupid. just another way for card companies to save money. even though i have some sticker autos, i hesitate to trade FOR sticker autos...unless its a major superstar.... just my 2 cents...

you all make valid points my experiences recently have shown that some ppl have a "negative premium" for lack of better words. its like ppl who pay more money for mutli color patch cards or jersey serials. the only difference is that it is backwards. example two craphanso thorpe rookie cards that book $12 each. one auto with a sticker one without. the one without the sticker will always fetch more value than the one with a sticker. did that make sense? I hope so...lol

The worst mix up was the Reggie White Auto Sticker that was a DE Reggie White card with that dirtbag RB Reggie White (Rookie 2002)'s autograph on it. What a disgrace to shame the greatest DE of all time with some scrubs autograph...after he was dead to make it even worse.
I agree this is a problem with the stickers. Reggie White would not have signed the card if it was not his!!!!!
Stickers cause problems for us and remove problems for the card companies. This is win for them lose for us situation.
Here is the card they goofed up:
2004 Leaf Limited Threads Prime LT83A Reggie White AU ERR/Autograph is that of/Reggie White the running back)
