    Manufactured patches

What is the point of manufactured patches ??? Every time I get one I feel like I just got robbed! My biggest problom with them is when you recive them as a hit in a high end product. I feel for the price point of some of the product you pay for , you should get all real memoribia hits am I wrong

I really see it as being no different than an insert. To me a card is a card and as long is it looks cool I don't really care about 'Authentic Game-Used.' I honestly would rather get a manufactured patch that looks cool than an 'event-worn' jersey card.

The manufactured patches are good for their unique-ness. To my memory, 03-04 Trilogy was the first hockey set to use manufactured patches. The Crest of Honor card featured a small team logo (with a variation showing the players uni number). They carry a premium, but nor nearly as much as an actual game used patch, even a small piece.

UD took it to the next level with OPC Premier's Premier Stitchings. The patches commemorated achievements, awards, and nicknames. Unfortunately, UD went to far (as they usually do) by making multi-tiered versions of each patch in low print numbers.

Collectors have been conditioned to get excited anytime they hear the word "patch". As Yzerfan said, you have to remember that this is a manufactured patch. Nothing more. It is no different than putting gold foil on a card, or die cutting it. Sure the embroidery process takes longer and the card has to be modified to accept the patch, but a manufactured patch card is an insert, plain and simple.

    Manufactured Patches...novel idea...lots of potential for cool designs...How do I view them...Meh!

As long as collectors are aware that the patches are manufactured and are not fooled into thinking they are real, I believe they have a place in the hobby.

Certainly not as valuable as game-used but just as valuable as an event or photo shoot jersey that has three nameplates and ten patches on it that the player has on his back for seconds or minutes.

I have heard horror stories from people behind the scenes at the NHL Draft.

Be careful of future rookie memorabilia cards.

I don't have a problem with a manufactured patch as long as it doesn't take the place of a regular game used or autograph. Topps does this in baseball and you can open up a box of 2013 Topps and just pull a manufactured patch insert card as your "hit". Sorry it isn't a hit. It is an insert card.

You've just touched on my least favorite thing about "rookie patches," especially those in high-end products. They may not be manufactured like some being spoken of in this thread, but to me they're actually worse because you're paying a premium for a nice patch in a high-end product, despite the fact that it has appeared in nothing more important than a photo shoot. I don't bother anymore with patch cards, unless they're for a PC player.

I'm not a huge ITG collector, but your memorabilia at least deserves to be referred to by that term. I can certainly understand the appeal of the product for those who want to feel like there's a real connection between their card and hockey history.

Like any other idea, I think it has a place in the products I buy.

Where I disagree with the companies is that it's place is not as one of my memorabilia "hits." As has been pointed out, this is an insert, not a memorabilia card. It should be no more a major hit than any other insert or parallel. If I'm buying a pack or box that has a history of good memorabilia, I'm very disappointed if my hit is a manufactured piece, regardless of what it entails.

weren't you just interested in getting a couple custom made cards done by me with manufactured patches???

with all the horror stories lately from photo shoot jerseys and the possiblity that the players havent even worn the jersey its hard to know whats real and whats not so at least they tell you those ones are manufatured, rather than gong off their word that its "game used". I love making the manufactured patch cards myself just because i couldnt care less if its game worn or not im just looking for something nice. I'd take a sick manufactured patch over a game used jersey card
