Autograph Books?
Hi I was wondering if anyone collects or know anything about autographs books? I found a autograph book of Victoria Gotti that I only paid $2.50 for at a flea market. The books like it was never read. It has a sticker on the cover that says Autograph Copy. She signed in pen. I was wondering would these be fake or do they have them sign some for shows? Also if you found a autograph book who did you find. Also if I come across any more books signed should I buy them? Thanks for the help Chris

I paid $6 for a Cal Ripken signed book at a flea market and found a book signed by RUDY at my local goodwill for like $2. Its cool to have the signature, but its just kind of hard to display signed books.

Wow you found a Cal Ripken signed book for $6 that crazy. Who is Rudy? I know that is hard to display a autograph book but I will still take the auto if it is cheap.

If there is a sticker on the cover that says autograph copy, I would think that it is legit. I have seen those at major and small bookstores, where they have extras from an in-store signing by the author. If they get a ton of extras, and then can't move them, they have to get rid of them so they can put new inventory out. So, someone may have bought it cheap from the store, or it may have been donated to a Goodwill and acquired that way.
As for displaying, I have the same issue, since the signature is not on the cover, but rather on the title page. I am debating cutting the signature out of the book, and pairing it with a photo or the dust jacket for display, but of course, that messes up the book. You can still read the book, but now you are missing the title page. Haven't tried it yet, but I am toying with it for my Phil Jackson auto book...Working on autographed 1987 Topps Baseball set:

I looked at the autograph of Gotti online and it looks like a real auto. I was thinking about cutting it out also but then I just decided to put on a bookcase and try 2 get more autograph books as I go.

Signed books are frequently collected and often rather reasonably priced. I know of a collector who regularly goes to used books stores and flips through all the sports books and has solid luck finding signed copies of books of pretty solid players for cheap. Normally, he then will cut the signature out and have it matted and framed with a photo of the player.
I sort of collect signed books as a side project, adding one or two a year. I hope to eventually be able to have a little mini signed book library in my future house.

Wow that's a good idea to check out used book stores but I would think the store owner would check and sell the auto book for more money. I found a couple other books that I did not buy because they were signed to someone or just there first name. I passed on a Jesse Ventura auto book because it was signed to someone and only signed it Jesse.

Not me but my sister just graduated from law school in DC and she had to go to the book store to get a book written by a lawyer for one of her classes and she bought it and got it home then opened it and realized it was signed by the lawyer.

Yeah, that Cal Ripken was definitely a great find. Rudy Ruettiger was the Notre Dame football player that they made a movie about in the 90's. Not a big name, but a cool story!
