A couple of people (including myself) had waited years for this card to surface and about a year ago, it finally did. Unless you were an avid UD Black collector/buyer, I'd say that at least 80% of the people out there, didn't even know that this card existed. The original seller, was from South Carolina and he was selling it for one of his customers. I actually passed on the card at $4k, mainly because the Ruth autograph looked like it had been crumpled up, thrown in the garbage and then picked from the garbage, flattened out and glued to the card. The card was sold to a large ebay dealer and obviously, then changed hands again to this recent seller.

As a few people have noted, there are actually quite a few Ruth auto's out in the market and if you take the time to look, you'd be hard pressed to find one anywhere close to the condition that this one was in. Let's just say, that UD would "never" have inserted this autograph, into one of it's baseball products.

While it's still a great card (when you consider the history of the two players who signed), as usual, UD still blew it big-time. When the product was released, I had a buyer who was willing to pay in the $7500-$10k range for this card but it didn't surface for years. Once it finally did and he saw it, he didn't even wish to place a bid.

*This is actually a "rarer" autograph of Morenz as well. If you were to see twenty autographs of Morenz in your lifetime, perhaps only one would feature him signing "Howie", as the majority are signed "H. Morenz". Hope the new owner treasures the card and doesn't re-list it on ebay in a month.

Rough estimate I see about 200 Babe Ruth cut autographs have been made will just around 20 have been made for Howie Morenz just to give people an idea.

To me it almost seems like Upper Deck used the poor looking Babe Ruth autograph in a hockey set since they figured more people would care about Morenz than Ruth. If they released it in baseball people would probably raise a stink about it.

If you go on watchcount.com you can see the final price of best offers on ebay by copy and pasting the item number into the space provided. Just figured it out last week.

This is one hot little tip, my friend!
