Yes I know Prime and Dominion are from the same year and have the same rookie crop but that doesn't change what I said in having UD do the same. Why can't UD release a 13-14 The Cup and include a bonus pack (call it an update set or delayed release) of a 12-13 The Cup? All I was getting at is maybe UD should try to find some way to make a dual release using a bonus pack idea like what Prime did with the Dominion pack. The Prime/Dominon release is two different releases into one, why can't you do the same with a Dual Cup release in the same manner? We always have cards from earlier years releases put into the next seasons release (11-12 SOTT in 12-13 SPA) so what difference would it be if instead of 12-13 cards being inserted into 13-14 tins of the cup if they just did two seperate packs in the same tin as two releases?Last edited by MattDMC; 09-04-2013 at 11:32 PM.

I agree completely that if there are 249 less JT Brown RCs in the world, nothing bad will come of it. Heck, even for some of the bigger name (Chris Krieder?) the idea of "not having a Cup ARP", IMO, isn't all that big of a deal
I see you point, but I think it comes down to what you're going to do with those cards, and what UD (or collectors) consider they are - and I mean specifically with the rookies.
If you put a "bonus pack" of a 12-13 product into a 13-14 product, is it still a 12-13 product? Both UD and Panini have done a great job of blurring the lines for what ties a product to a given release year (it certianly isn't the timing of the release anymore. We're collecting in an age where "next year's cards" come out before "this year's cards").
But the biggest problem I see with UD doing bonus packs of The Cup - they'd be killing the brand. It's supposed to be their flagship release, for hockey, the biggest of the big - and for them to go the route of turning a release into bonus cards?? IMO - it takes away from the product. Yes, Panini just did that with Dominion..... but Dominion isn't the cream of the crop for hockey products (The Cup is) and the resale value of the cards (especially the RCs) is a fraction of The Cup.
If I were Upper Deck - what I would have decided to do a long time ago.... is still make it (and I bet they will be making it) but make the release much more limited. Pick the best 5 rookies and make them /99, but only add another 20 that are /249 after that. Then lower the overall production run. Don't promise a RC in every tin. Take away from the normal RC emphasis, and rely on stars / retired players as the big hits.
It's either that, or scrap it.... throw the RCs & base in the garbage, and use the other stuff in the 13-14 release.

UD statement yesterday regarding The Cup:
"There are a variety of reasons that we have not been able to make a statement about the product yet. We will share information when we are allowed to do so, not before. Sorry!"
Supposedly the deadline for release is 9/30. I also believe Ultimate was/is supposed to be included, as SPx was with SPA.

I buy only the individual cards from ebay, but anyway, this product is awesome. What's more important to me, there is every year a few Gilmour cards included, not ten as in many other products.
The Cup is something else just like Eddie Cochran says.

As long as UD is around there will be a Cup set every year, it's too much of a money maker and they can't afford not to make some version of it regardless of the rookie situation. They have always waited until the last minute to release details and I don't expect any different even though they don't seem to have anything else in the pipeline for 2012-13 that they would risk damaging sales with a Cup announcement.
