Hi - Another Newbie here
Just wanted to say hello and talk a bit about why I came here.
To be honest, I know little about sports or cards, I've only been learning about it these passed few weeks.
My father was an avid collector, he collected so many baseball, football, hockey, basketball and even nascar cards throughout the passed few decades, that it filled up my family's attic with boxes.... he passed away unexpectedly on the 10th of August and now my family is looking to sell his collection and they've asked me to take care of it because of my eBay account... however, I didn't want these cards to just go to anyone, I wanted them to go to someone who would be just as excited to have these cards and would take care of them like he did, I know that's what he would want.
So here I am at this forum, ready to continue to learn about the art of card trading/collecting. So far, I've been learning that the big brands are ones like Topps, Fleer, and Upper Deck which I've discovered he has like truck loads of and then some and I haven't even finished going through the rest of his cards.
He was a big Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan (as we live only 45 minutes from Pittsburgh and went to the games all the time) so we have tons of cards featuring the Steelers and Pirates...
I know this is going to be hard for me personally to let go of his vast collection but knowing it's going to avid collectors like him will make everything a lot easier on me and my family.Last edited by Aeristilheartly; 09-10-2013 at 03:11 AM.

Thanks everyone, I've been browsing through the site and although I'm very familiar forums, this is certainly a 'different' kind of forum but all of the options, including the ability to list my father's inventory look amazing. Once I finish going through these last few boxes of cards I plan on listing things right away :)
Although I do have a few questions... how do you guys figure prices on your cards? I noticed in the trading/selling/buying area that people are looking to sell their collections but the rules say you're not allowed to talk about things like 'blue book' value... although I am familiar with the word 'blue book' I'm not sure what people would go on about selling them... I mean, for example, would it be acceptable to just browse around online for the 'value' of your card and then just try and list it here?
It sounds kind of like a big ol' online yard sale for cards, where people are listing the prices for what they 'think' their cards are worth and then negotiating over the final pricing... which would be amazing as that's exactly what I'm looking to do, but I just want to make sure I'm understanding things correctly before I list anything too lol

Some people buy/sell by BV, Book Value. Beckett is a pay site that sets the BV for cards. Others buy/sell by what recent cards have sold for on eBay = SV. I hope that sheds a little light on what you were asking.
