Getting to know new Flyers forward Dan Cleary
Dan Cleary is a hockey player in the National Hockey League. He has played much of his career for the Detroit Red Wings. If these are the only two facts you know about the new Flyers forward, you're not alone.
So to help us get to know Cleary a little better, I quickly asked J.J. from Red Wings blog Winging It In Motown to answer a few questions about him. Those questions, and J.J.'s answers, appear below.

I was ecstatic upon hearing Cleary will be playing for the Flyers. Finally the overpaid, plodding, ham-fisted, slow-coach forward is an SEP.
Now the Red Wings can finally move forward.

The deal fell through (Cleary backed out) and he signed a 1 year / 1.75M deal to stay in Detroit.

We would have beaten the Black Hawks this past year in either game 6 or 7, if Cleary could actually bang a loose puck into the open net. Now we have to once again put up with ineptitude.
Holland deserves swear words for giving Mikael Samuelsson, Brad Stuart, and Dan Cleary jobs, then severely overpaying them, when it has been apparent over the last 3-5 seasons that they are all pathetically useless.Last edited by centrehice; 09-12-2013 at 05:26 PM.

LOL, I know it's not funny, but the sudden change and your reaction... at least you've got Alfie, right?

I would have given Brunner a raise as opposed to even looking Cleary's way. Yes, I actually anticipate more from Weiss. He finally may be playing on a winning team. The change may rejuvenate Alfie, and he may find a home with a couple other Europes and be very successful.
It's funny, Ken Holland now takes one step forward, then 2 steps back, when in the mid to late 90's all of his steps were positively forward.
I don't think that Holland perceives the disconnect. He grabs a guy, and the guy's 1st year is OK, but then travesty for the next 3. Cleary and Samuelsson are perfect examples of this. Each of their 1st years with the Wings were outstanding, then directly into the Trash Bin, with Holland giving each a raise in between. Then he finally lets Samuelsson go to Vancouver where he was forking useless, then hires the bum back for more money, and a 3 year deal.
Words fail me.
