Western Conference training camp battles
Some significant battles for roster spots will be taking place across the league over the next two weeks. The fantasy impact could mean the difference between 10 points and 60. Let's take a look at some of the key battles that I'll be watching - and why I'll be watching them.

Who is this Darryl Dobbs?
He says Gustav Nyquist vs Making the Team? Is this guy serious? Nyquist was arguably their best player last Playoff season. How is he fighting for a spot against the Bum Cleary?
Give your head a shake pal. Nyquist is the future of the Red Wings, Cleary, the distant past.

I think you're right, Nyquist is on the team. Played too well in the POs last year.
Like him or not, Cleary was resigned to play..... so I wouldn't count on him being scratched anytime soon.
As for the writer, I would suggest taking his opinions with a grain of salt. While most of what he says seem like valid point - putting Detroit into an article about the Western Conference tells me that he isn't paying too much attention to anything.

its just a foo-foo article to create a stir, no one in Jets land is concerned with the Frolik or Setoguchi battle for a top 6 spot, its all Scheifele all the time...will he centre Kane and Guchi, or old man Oli Yoki take the 2 spot again...

There is no way Hansen is seeing the Sedin line. I'm a huge Hansen fan, but no. under tortorella I see:
Sedin-Sedin-Kassian
Booth-Kesler-Burrows
Higgins-Schroeder-Hansen
Setitoa-Richardson-Weise
Gaunce
Jensen
But I have to say, in game 1 of the preseason, Shinkaruk made a HUGE case for himself. Being 18 I can't see him sticking this year, but for that one game...wow.

I would love to see that as the top 2 lines. I really hope Kassian develops into a mean sob that has no leash to protect the gingers.

After those two games maybe switch up Gaunce and Schroeder.

I have only seen Gaunce play about 2 shifts, so about 55 seconds of play. He any good? Or is he a Poor Man's Brandon Yip?

I've only seen about that amount of Yip. Brendan Gaunce has an honest shot at third line and, so far, the most goals on the team (2)
