Patrick Roy brought so much of his legendary intensity to his NHL coaching debut that he had to make more room for it behind the Colorado Avalanche bench.

The Hall of Fame goaltender and four-time Stanley Cup champion was in vintage form Wednesday night when he got into a heated exchange with Anaheim Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau.

After the final horn of Colorado's 6-1 hammering of Anaheim, Roy expressed his displeasure to the Ducks about their defenceman Ben Lovejoy going for a low and seemingly knee-on-knee hit on Avs rookie Nathan MacKinnon.

Roy and Boudreau are seen shouting and pointing fingers at each other before Roy shoves the glass partition between them -- twice. Roy was eventually ushered away by his assistant coaches before a full-on bench brawl ensued.

His team won handily and we got to see the fiery passion of Roy behind the bench. Ohhh it's going to be a fun year in Colorado.

Well I hope M. Sherman put plenty of money aside to pay for all those upcoming NHL fines Roy will incur.
Sometimes you gotta wonder if they really did their homework before hiring him.

Roy was a great goaltender, but as a coach, he makes his team look like 80's junior hockey.

Can't blame him for being mad about a knee on knee hit with their franchise player, but he still has to remember he isn't a player anymore, too hard to fight without skates on out there!!

Looks like he got a $10,000 fine for the incident. However, I don't blame him for being mad about that knee on Landeskog. However, trying to push the glass over was a bit overboard.
