Jobs Americans Won't Do
Merck is lobbying for more immigrants since they don't have Americans to work for them after firing another 8500 people. They already work in a government enforced monopoly, what else do they expect?

This week, the pharmaceutical giant Merck announced it will cut 8,500 jobs in an effort to remain competitive in a rapidly changing drug industry. Earlier this year, Merck announced plans to cut 7,500 jobs, bringing the total of workers let go to 16,000. In all, Merck intends to lay off one out of every five of its employees.
At the same time, top Merck officials are urging Congress to loosen the nation's immigration laws to allow more foreign workers into the United States. In a Sept. 10 letter to House Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Merck Executive Vice President for Human Resources Mirian Graddick-Weir urged that the U.S. admit more high- and low-skilled immigrants to "address the reality that there is a global war for talent" and to "align our nation's immigration policies with its workforce needs at all skill levels to ensure U.S. global competitiveness."
Merck, whose officials did not respond to requests for comment, wasn't alone in signing the letter to Boehner and Pelosi. Other companies that have laid off thousands in recent years — Hewlett-Packard, Cisco, United Technologies, American Express, Procter & Gamble, T-Mobile, Archer-Daniels-Midland, Cigna, Texas Instruments and more — are also petitioning Congress for more immigrant workers. In all, representatives of more than 100 big U.S. corporations signed the letter.

I meant that the arguement that immigrants don't drive wages down doesn't make sense because increasing a supply of while demand remains the same will always drive prices down. I understand the problem all too well as I am an IT contractor.
Huffpost had this article about the shortage of workers picking fruit. With the decreased supply of workers, those available workers are in higher demand and wages for them has risen as well as them getting other perks. And for the first time ever, recruiters have trained high school students to pick the fruit. (So maybe these aren't necessarily jobs Americans won't do?)

With farmworkers in such high demand, many said they shun remote locations and choose fields closer to home; they pick crops that pay better; they also prefer lighter work instead of tougher jobs that require being bent over all day. More women are also in the fields.
Because most workers now have smartphones, they text each other information about pay and working conditions – and some switch employers mid-way through harvest if better opportunities arise.
As a result, labor contractors and growers must work harder to fill and retain work crews. Cisneros said he even trained and hired high school students this summer to pick grapes – something he was not willing to do in the past.
Growers like Carson Smith, in turn, have raised wages by 20 percent over the past two years. The wine grape grower, who farms 800 acres near Fresno, said his biggest competition for workers is from table grape growers who are also raising wages for their pickers.
"The fear of a shortage drove us to increase pay," said Smith, who paid his machine drivers $12.75 per hour, $2 more than previous years. "We set our wages to where we thought we could attract people, though it was still tougher than other years to fill our positions."

Giant corporations want larger immigrant work forces because they will work part-time and for minimum wage, in all factories without question. As of now many corporations factories are unionized with livable wages, and benefits for workers.
Corporations want to spend 65% less on labour cost, the way to do this is to abolish all full-time labour, and abolish company benefits.
Americans will do the work, but only at $23.00 per hour, with benefits. Employers see a massive work force that will do it for $9.00 per hour and no benefits, no union.
Easy as pie.Last edited by centrehice; 10-06-2013 at 11:18 AM.

The easy solution is to limit immigration, but the Democrats don't want that since they are trying to change demographics to create more Democratic voters

If you are a recent law school grad and trying to practice in California, things just got a little tougher (as if it wasn't almost impossible to get a job already), since illegal immigrants are now allowed to practice law. So I guess we need to add lawyer to the expanding list of "jobs Americans won't do".

If employers didn't insist on the lowest possible labour, immigration wouldn't be an issue.
Job creators are the ones creating jobs for these illegal immigrants. Instead of blaming the immigrants for trying to find work, blame the Americans who are giving them work. Take the employers to task over it and cut off the head instead of nipping at the tail.

This is a lame arguement. There is already a law barring companies from hiring illegal aliens, the Obama Administration is just doing everything it can to avoid enforcing the law and attacking any state that tries to enforce the federal law themselves.
Then, out of the other side of their mouth the Obama Administration excoriates the GOP for not meekly assenting to funding the ACA since it is the "law of the land". They've even changed the ACA without going through Congress, so they aren't following the black letter of their very own law! And we should just follow them?
