Flames and their fans. A couple of wins and Iginla was the problem? It's a long season. I fully expect the Flames and Oilers to battle for the next First Round Draft Pick next Summer.

The problem in Calgary for years, was poor management and a worse scouting department. The other fact that people refuse to admit to themselves, is that Iginla is about 90% done - has been for years. All the media reported for years, was how he never had a center to play with, how this and how that.....

What they didn't honestly report; is that his soft hands became hands of stone, how he couldn't skate with the younger players and how is back-checking, became back-coasting.

Everyone gets old, everyone loses a step and eventually, everyone retires. The corporate community "pressured" the Flames to hang-onto Iginla for several years and bad management, did just that. The end result, Iginla is now seen by more fans and they can see for themselves, that there is not much left in the tank. As for the Flames, they basically have nothing to show for trading him.

Iginla got one point(?) playing alongside Crosby - the so-called best player in the world?

Even Mike Krushelnyski scored 40-goals when he played alongside Gretzky.

Iginla surely IS done, however, he carried that team on his back for 12 full seasons. Gosh people have short memories. Calgarians are a bit bitter when anything outside the city limits is discussed. A lot of tunnel vision in that city.

I had a half-share season ticket package for the two 1/2 years that I lived there 1988-1990-91, people near me had a fit when I cheered for my team the Red Wings, when they came to town. The only way I could shut them up for the next 20 months was to ask them all if they cheered for the Flames when they were in Atlanta.

Iginla will get a standing ovation when he comes back to Calgary and will always be worshipped in this city. That doesn't change the fact that he is no longer even a relevant player in the league today.

I wouldn't put too much stock into one disillusioned writer. Flames management under Jay Feaster has been and will continue to be a problem for the Flames.

That was their greatest undoing. Too many deprecating assets that never got replaced with younger players that had potential. In all honesty, they should have started shopping Jarome two years earlier than they did - same with Kiprusoff. Instead, they rode both of those guys into the ground and have nothing to show for it in terms of return. Kiprusoff retired and they're now stuck with Joey MacDonald as the de facto #1 goalie. Sure they're doing all right through six games, but over the long haul....yikes.

What was the joke about Feaster made in response to the Iginla trade? He's the only GM to get fleeced twice trading the same player?
