2002/03 BAP Signature Series Autograph Buybacks

    Hi All,

How can you tell if it is a buyback card or an original? is there a stamp?

    Thanks

Yup, see the stamp in the top-right corner on these. Note all the checklists I've seen say that there are buybacks from 00-01 BAP Sig Series and 01-02 BAP Sig Series, I only collect Sedins so I don't know if this discrepancy is more widespread for other players, but I have never seen a single Sedin 00-01 buyback, on the other hand, I have seen lots of copies of both silver and gold buybacks from 01-02. Maybe there is an ultra-rare 00-01 out there, or perhaps the checklists are just incorrect.

It's easy to tell. The Buyback cards are from the 3 previous years Signature Issues - 1999, 2000, and 2001. if the card is a from 2003, then it is part of the issue.

So if you have a 1999-00 Buyback, it will look like that issue, with 98-99 stats, but will have a 2002-03 dating on it, and also for the next 2 issues of 00-01, and 01-02.

Cool, so basically, for the 1999 ones (specifically Shawn Chambers) they're the same apart from the stamp and the copyright date?

Yes, but they look exactly like 99-00 Sig series, not 2002-03. The unfortunate thing with a player like Shawn Chambers, is that the BV price of the card is only 1.5 X - times the original BV.

Star Players like Yzerman, Roy, Sakic, Jagr, Brodeur, etc - the Buyback value is 6 X Times the original card value.

So a Shawn Chambers card goes from probably a $6.00 card to an $9.00 card. Or $5.00 to $7.00 as I don't know it's original BV.

Me and my obscure player collection!

As mentioned, the stamp is the only differentiating mark. The copyright dates are the original dates from the original release and did not change. These are the original cards used in their respective series stamped and reinserted, that's all.
