Bingo! and add 25-50% more for box prices . Stickers are here to stay - good or bad but they are here to stay
Although I kind of like that hard signed is reserved for higher end products (Cup, SPA, Dominion)

Wrongo! Upper Deck had a ravenous ready-to-buy market for this product and they had all the lead-time in the world and they STILL took the easy way out. They could have done a proper job and priced it at SPA levels and it would have still sold a tonne, in my opinion. Maybe only one auto hit per box instead of two, but a hard-signed jobbie, and someone other than Thomas Hickey or Andrew Cogliano. Players who had Team Canada AND NHL success, so, ya know, the cards are actually collectible instead of heading to the $2 bin. And yes, those cards of those stars do exist in the current set, but the odds of pulling them are not good.
It's just more of the same-old same-old. If you're new to collecting Team Canada then hey, good for you if you like it, I don't mean to poop on your parade at all. But the big deal for me is that stuff that's 4 or 5 years old or even 6 months old doesn't sell because everybody wants the new stuff and then the new stuff is just inferior to what's already out there but everyone wants it anyways........THAT'S the icing on my cake right there.

fair enough points - but if it was Hard Signed and priced at SPA levels or took one of the hits out - people would then complain about only getting 1 auto and the price point - you would get people wondering why this isnt priced closer to OPC pricing
In terms of the checklist of guys like Hickey and Cogliano - I dont mind them - those guys put in solid performances in World Juniors, World Championships etc.. - would I have liked to see less of the "new" young guys who havent established themselves - yes but its not a deal breaker for me
to me its an affordable break with a great set to build (including SP and POE) and you still have the chance at alot of the big name autos - hard to get but still there
Also hard signed = redemption and we all hate redemptions
on a side note - im very happy with not including and game used in the set - focus on inserts, SP's, and the autosLast edited by neilnijjar; 12-08-2013 at 04:23 PM.

Hockey collectors are funny - they complain when there's "dollar bin" jersey cards in every product, they complain when there's none at all. If they charged $120+ per box and only had one hard-signed auto people would be screaming bloody murder. And we wouldn't have the luxury of Guillaume Latendresse autos since he's in....Switzerland. Not to mention they'd have redemption cards up the wazoo of all the most desirable guys.
There's never an easy way to release a product like this that appeals to everybody - you can only hope to please most of the people most of the time.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Sochi 2034 and it would be cheaper to fly there and have the players sign the cards than buy a couple of boxes....lol

I'm not saying that all of the Autos should be hard signed, but seriously, maybe the stuff numbered to /25, or 5 should be.
My problem is that I've seen better Team Canada cards come out of SPGU, The Cup, Black Diamond and SPA than this product, a product whose ENTIRE THEME is team Canada.
Kind of weak if you ask me, designing a team canada set and the team canada cards within can't even compare to existing team canada stuff just tossed randomly into other products.
WEAK EFFORT ALL AROUND.

I actually really enjoy this product at the price point. Thinking of it like this. Where else do you get 2-3 autos, 2-3 serial numbered cards, potential for huge hits like HG rookies and limited autos? I busted 2 cases, both had a black /5 auto (one being Crosby), both had 1/1 printing plates (Sittler & Orr), both had at least one HG /10 that I remember (Huberdeau among others), great autos of Brodeur, Gallagher, etc...
I don't get the hate at these price points.

Ok fine, but if you're going to crack two cases of course you're going to get a half-decent return. For my $80, I personally felt that I got some uninspired base cards, some sad inserts and some sadder autos of players I couldn't care less about. My only point was that Upper Deck had the time and resources to make a way better product that would have sold regardless of the price point. And while we're on the topic of price point, let's just remember that you only get 5 cards in the pack. Whatever, I think I'm trading just about the entire box for three McDonalds inserts. Gonna put this whole sad story behind me :p

I did a box of this stuff on the weekend - and I've got to say, I was impressed.
I quite liked the base cards. UD actually went out of their way to use some interesting photos. Liked that they went for a lot of older WJC photos for guys that played in that tourney 10, 15, 25 (or whatever) years ago.
I'll agree - the autos contain a lot of weaker names (Alex Burrows was my 'best' auto hit) but the Special Edition, POE, and SP'd cards all added value IMO, made the break better. I did get one pretty nice hit.... Peiterangleo HG /10.... so maybe that's got my overall impression up a bit.
For the price point, I think they did a fine job of it. It's basically the same cost as busting Series 1. While it may lack rookies - you're getting 2 or 3 autos, plus a numbered parallel in every box (at least from what I've seen). There is a chance at some big hits (Orr, Gretzky, etc).

To me team canada seems like more of a set builders product than a rip and flip (or trade)
one ne thing I think they could have done was maybe a detailed look on what tournaments the players were in on the backs of the card (especially autos).
Maybe if you knew what tournament Tim Brent played in you wouldn't be as dissapointed with pulling his auto (just an example)
also wondering why no women's subset or sledge hockey subset
