    Back to my roots

A lot has changed for me over the last 18-24 months. We moved into our dream location north of Buffalo, near the Canadian border; my job is about as stable as its been in the last 4-5 years, I have starting my course load in pursuit of a doctorate (re-considering this already) and I had an realization about myself in the hobby.

When I first jumped back into the hobby in 2007, it really was for 1 set, build it for the coming of my son that Becky and I were planning to adopt (this did not happen for a number of reason, but it led us to Olivia and I would not change ANYTHING). As time moved on, I got more and more engrossed into the hobby to the point of exhaustion. I have gone through a number of different phases, from set builder, to player PC guy to the guy I didn't think I'd become, flipper guy. During those last 18-24 months, I had to sell off a number of pieces in my collection for a number of reasons (owning 2 houses on 1 salary didn't make the decision hard) but I found no real attachment to anything. I first thought it was my peace with leaving the hobby, but it really became the callousness of myself viewing cards as "stock".

Last week, I decided to purge most everything I had and basically start anew; going back to my roots in the hobby. As a good friend told me last night, "it will be good to see the guy that was chasing stuff for the right reasons."

Hope you all can welcome me back on a semi-regular basis to start.

Welcome back...thinking about making a come back tour myself. My wife and I just moved our family from Pennsylvania to Michigan and it has been three months of STRESS. We are finally in our own house now and are starting to settle in, so I might start to come back slowly. Anyways, glad to see you back on here.

Glad to hear that things are going well for you Scott, and welcome back to the hobby! I look forward to seeing you around more often again and hopefully making some trades. Do you have any ideas on what you are going to focus on collecting?

probably back to set building. I'm leaning toward artifacts.

To me, you've never really gone away, but it is good to have the old Scott back, definitely... and I may or may not be the guy who made the quote you alluded to. It's true, though. You've done just about everything there is to do in this hobby, and having you around the site more is certainly an asset, but it is mainly good to see you grab the bull by the horns and do something you enjoy for yourself. I already look forward to our future banter together. :)
