What do you put in your LOR's?

I just started ttming this summer been doing current Nascar drivers and having decent success, I have not sent any LORs yet, but thinking I should start when I started sending to retired drivers. What does everyone put in there's.
I'm thinking something like: Mr. XXXXXX As a longtime nascar fan I appreciate everything you have done for the sport I love. I would be honored if you would sign my card and send back to me with the envelope enclosed. Thank you for your time and have a great day!
    Is this a good start?

I've been doing HOF baseballs TTM for about six weeks with success. I keep it brief but try to personalize it. If I have bought or read a player's book, I mention it. I try to be as polite as possible, too. I also try to draw a connection between myself and my request for their signature.

I have a basic intro and closing I use for pretty much all requests and then the middle I personalize with why I'm a fan or even a question or two. I usually fill the front of a sheet of looseleaf paper.
