Three 20-year-old programmers build a working Obamacare website in just days
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...rnment-do.html
While the Obamacare website still remains broken, three 20-year-old programmers have shown the government how it should be done.
Ning Liang, George Kalogeropoulos and Michael Wasser developed a site in matter of days - and it does things the expensive and faltering healthcare.gov can't do.
From a San Francisco office the men have built HealthSherpa.com, which presents the Affordable Health Care Act data in a much simpler way to the government website.
'They got it completely backwards in terms of what people want up front,' Liang told CBS News. The programmer continued: 'They want prices and benefits, so that they could make the decision.'
HealthSherpa.com, which is just two weeks old, allows a user to simply input their zip code and view all the health plans available to them.
The website claims: 'The Health Sherpa is a free guide that makes it easier to find and sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. We only use carefully vetted, publicly available data.'
The programmers are also adding features to the site, such as a section on tax subsidies. But the three 20-year-olds say they worked on the project as a service rather than to make money.
'There was no thought of, 'How do we make money this time?'' Wasser explained to CBS. 'It was like, 'This is a problem that we know we can solve in a really short period of time. So let's just do it.''
Health Sherpa doesn't try to do the more complex operations that the government site will offer - such as actually applying for insurance coverage.
But it does provide a more streamlined way of searching through the plans, and it is actually up and running.
In contrast to this site, the Obama administration is struggling to get the glitches with healthcare.gov sorted as soon as possible, as the president mentioned in a speech on Friday.

Crickets.
Myself and a friend have done some programming and website building and we were shocked when we learned what the government paid to have the website built. Private corporations often accept contract bids to have complicated websites built or revamped and get it done for as little as $50,000. The idea that the contact for this was what...$90 million, and that wasn't enough, is obnoxious.
These guys proved what he and I were talking about. This website would have been a slam dunk to build from scratch in a matter of weeks. I imagine these guys who did this already had some base code written that they just copied and pasted in to accomplish this in just 3 days, but it proves that it is doable.

Just makes you curious on where the 634 Million Dollars of Tax Payers money went?

The truth lies somewhere in between. I agree 90 million is obnoxious, but to think 50k could create a website encapsulating a 1,200 page bill and 50 different states is naďve.

Where is this 90 Million coming from? I thought it was 634 Million that was widely reported back around OCT first?

Again, the number is probably somewhere in between. Like accounting for anything, you can categorize costs in a 1,000 different ways.

The only thing that is missing is calculating the subsidy, but the simplicity of the site makes healthcare, gov look wasteful and pathetic. In one minute I entered my info into healthsherpa.com, without providing any personally identifying info, was presented with plan premiums and further instructions to learn more details.
They offered a link to an online application as well as this:
Personal Choice PPO Platinum (Platinum)
Independence Blue Cross
Call to Buy
- Call Independence Blue Cross at (800) 275-2583.
- Use their menu or ask the operator to speak to someone about purchasing coverage.
- Tell them you would like to purchase health exchange coverage, specifically the Personal Choice PPO Platinum for DELAWARE County, PA.
- Tell them who you would like to cover.
- Follow their instructions to complete the application process.

Have you gone on the website they made? It is simple to use, very user-friendly, provides users with the ability to sign up for health care (which the Obamacare website was supposed to do) and would not cost anywhere near a million to build. I don't know if you have any familiarity with programming, but the website doesn't have to encapsulate every single page of the bill, it just has to provide the basic functions of connecting buyers with insurance providers. In a matter of minutes I was able to enter my info and have links to insurance providers that can sell me policies. There is nothing naive about efficiency.

The company I get my insurance through has a little more complexed health insurance website than healthcare.gov. Yet, if it that site cost them 90 Million, let alone 634 million, to build, they wouldn't even be in business.
Where do you think this money went?
