canada post rant
I was suppose to get an package (3 UD box today). I was following the package on Canada Post web site and got a notification that the package was out for delivery around 10:30. Around 11:10 I get another notification that delivery was attempted and failed and that the package would be available tomorrow at the post office. So as soon as I've seen that message I went to check if I had the delivery notice in the mailbox or the door..... nothing... About an hour later I see the mail women delivering mail, I got check the mailbox and the delivery notice is now there. So I think they never tried delivering it at my address and filled it the delivery papers at the post office.
Is this normal and acceptable practice, well not to me. I've paid for a service and they haven't delivered that service. I will do an official complain about this. Canada post keep on saying that they are loosing money etc... well start by providing the promise service and maybe your business will do better..
so now gotta wait til tomorrow afternoon to bust open my 3 box.. I'm super happy!

My packages never get attempted to deliver , always just left the tag in the mailbox , thought it was normal practice since i live in a rural area , then one day i was expecting a package i get a knock at the door and it's not my usual mail person standing there with my package and i say this is unusual , is this something new ? and he looks confused and i tell him my packages never come to my door ... anyway i have mentioned this a few postal workers since then and they just stick up for each other and say that i must not be home when the usual mail person comes by

I think it must depend on the area and the mail-carrier. Where I was living up until a few months ago, I never got someone giving my package. They would always leave the delivery slip in the mailbox. (My mailbox was a little down the road from my house with a bunch of others). There was some kind of thing where if the house wasn't within some stupid distance like 80 metres then they don't attempt a delivery.
If it helps at all, I found that if I went over to the post office around 8pm, they would have the package in their system and I could pick it up then. They can usually help you if you call as well. I agree, if you're waiting to bust some boxes, it sucks to wait a day.

is the weight of an item an issue, I always thought if it was over a certain weight, then they were not allowed to deliever it, due to health and safety concerns

I live in a rural area here in New Brunswick, and we have those "community mailboxes" just across the street from my house. Along with the regular size mail box for letters and junk mail, there is a larger box that the delivery person can put parcels in. If the parcel fits, they put it in, and put the key in my mailbox. I've never had trouble but i've never ordered 3 boxes of cards either. The only time i had to go pick it up was because it needed a signature.

Thanks all for the reply, I live in MTL subburb and what strange is sometimes she rings the bell sometimes not. I had full size hockey shipped and they delivered to my door (box was huge). Don't think 3 box is too heavy but who knows. I went this morning to puckip the box and was told to go after 13pm! lovely! oh well watch the box break section later today.. I'll be posting my break!

I'm fairly certain that my deliverer does not show up everyday. I often get packages that take several days longer to recieve than they should (I moved about 6 months ago.... its an obvious pattern). The kicker for me..... the day we had Saturday delivery :)
Anyone in Canada reading this knows I'm talking crazy. Right? We don't get delivery on Saturdays. Well, I was out on the front porch having a coffee (this was about a month ago) and I see the mail truck pull up and fill the 'super box'. Sure enough, I go check and I've got mail. There was none on Thursday or Friday.
It's a newer subdivision, and I'm guessing that it was just added to some carrier's route, and missing days is what they have to do to keep up.
