Pack Searching Frustration
Hey guys, I haven't been on here much lately due to the busy Christmas season working a couple of different jobs in retail. I'm working at one of the major retailers in the city and there is an area off to the side that sells sports and non-sports and gaming cards. Now normally, I'm watching to make sure nobody walks off with a pack of cards or making sure that little fingers aren't walking off with merchandise without mom and dad knowing. Today, I had to sit there and watch as a kid (maybe 16 or so) went through and opened ten or twelve different boxes of product in attempts of finding the packs with the jersey cards inside. If the boxes were already opened that would be one thing, but he specifically went out of his way to open all of these boxes in order to ruin the chase for anyone else hoping to "hit it big" in one of these retail boxes. There was a member of our AP (Assets Protection) team who was watching him the entire time as our first though was that he was pocketing product, but I just felt helpless and angry watching it go down. This guys parents showed up probably another ten minutes later and they went so far as to ask a person working if they would be able to go to the back and bring up more boxes of a certain product for this pizza faced teen to rifle through. Just frustrates me to know that the retailer I work at won't act on it because in technical terms it isn't "stealing" but to anybody who knows the hobby it's basically the same thing. Doesn't pack searching ruin the fun of buying boxes and packs?
Sorry for the rant, just wanted to share my frustration.
Jason

I agree its disgusting to see however what is he really getting though? A $2 Jersey Card. I understand your frustration watching it happen though.

Yeah given what comes out of retail packs (statistically speaking) even if he gets a "hit" the majority of the time it won't have a sale value of more than the cost of the pack. We all go to the shows and see massive boxes of game-used for 1-2 bucks a piece. That's more than likely what he's pulling.

Like Camarotuner said, the "hit" in retail boxes is generally worthless, IF he finds it. Anything other than base and common inserts are extremlty rare in retail in my opinion. If you check the odds stated on the box, you have a better chance of winning $50 on a scratch and win ticket. The kid's just wasting his time.
