What is the difference between ARP rookies and manufactured patches?

I got thinking of something last night.

I love the look of the Edmonton Oilers Monumental patches. They are pretty much the same size as what Prime Colours patches are. Now I do know that a lot of people on here do not like them because they are a "fake" patch and not a patch from a game worn jersey.

Lets flip the switch now. All Cup and Dominion auto rookie patches are from photoshoot jerseys. Should they not be considered "fake" patches as well.

I have seen some breaks from the new Dominion that came out yesterday and the patches are half the size of what they were last year. Yes I do know that they cut the price by quite a lot and that is a cost savings measure. I will not just blame Panini as The Cup patches on their rookies can be a pretty small window as well.

So why is it when a card company (yes all three have created manufactured patches) creates manufactured patch cards that they all get passed over? No one seems to like or collect them. Then a patch from a jersey that never even saw the ice in a NHL game on a rookie card sells for massive amounts of money.

What I think that a company should do is create rookies for their top end product and make it like Cup's Limited Logos. Nice and big patches and hard signed autos. I think that if you are using a "fake" jersey then they should theoretically be cheap to buy. All that the rookie has to do is put the jersey on and it is considered to be a "worn" jersey. Even if you have to cut back and make all rookies /99 the cards would really hold their value.

So really what is the difference other than we pay little for some and a lot for the other.

There is a difference from a event patch and manufactured patch. The player did wear the jersey and the patch come from a real jersey. The only thing is it was event worn and not game used. While a manufactured patch is not close to a jersey patch. Usually a logo they made for the card and has nothing to do with NHL equipment. So there is a big difference. Just does not have the same appeal.

I'm not a fan of patches/jerseys. Event worn is a gimmick especially with regards to ARPs. As for manufactured, not my favorite. Gotta be a nice hard signed auto!
