There's an easy solution to this. Photo variations.
The Topps baseball variations sell well.
I'd be very interested in collecting them all for my team.
I could care less about the same card with a number on it.

Replace "Serial Numbered To #/100" with "Game Used" or "Autographed" and you can make the same argument :)
I agree with the OP. These cards are (basically) worth nothing anymore.
There are so many of them, every set has serial numbered parallels, and there isn't enough people that want them anymore to justify prices you'd see 10 years ago.
If you pull a Taylor Hall UD Exclusives /100 (I'm trying to think of someone good / popular - but not a superstar) - who wants it? Sure there will be a few Hall collectors that will be into it, some Oilers collectors too, but after the first couple of dozen sell - what kind of market is there for this card? ZERO. The buyers know this, so even the first couple of dozen won't pay too high.
Some of the other comments here are bang on too. There is a lot of people now that they bust boxes (cases??) keep what they want, and send the rest to 99 cent auctions. Two or three auctions go low, and now there is a "sale value" that everyone else is expected to go by.
When I'm selling stuff - it's what I avoid that kind of sale totally, unless we're talking about something lower end (which, lol, I would include #/100 parallels of less than superstar players). Don't start auctions at 99 cents if you think the card is worth much more than that. I have no problem letting a card I feel worth $40 go for $25 - if that's the only bids I can get - but you can be sure that I won't start it at 99 cents, and hope there is at least a couple of interested buyers.
You will get a fair price, if you're patient. Auctions I ran about 6 weeks ago - many had start prices of $20 or $25. Lots didn't sell. When I relisted.... a few more did go, but one struck me as vary odd. I had about 40 views and 6 watchers the first time around ($20 start bid) but no bids. Second time? I sold it for over $30, with multiple bidders. Stick to your guns, get a fair price.
