Mine is to start a collection of a player that I don't have a single card of, and take it to super collector levels.

Not done in one year, of course. But it should be an interesting experiment for someone like me, who is horrible at maintaining a PC of a player.

I'll start a thread here on jan 1st, detailing the experiment.

    Player of choice: Jarome Iginla.

I was thinking of starting one of these threads myself......

For me, there are way too many, and I know I'll look back on this (same time next year?) and admit to having done not nearly as many as I wanted to. Despite this, here goes:

    - Top priority, continue to build the Ranford Collection. I'm missing 1 card from the 90s, 8 cards from 06-07 through 11-12, and already 16 from this year. The year isn't over, I'm sure I'll get most of these, but there's going to be more coming out too. I'd also like to build a complete Oilers logo using Ranford pieces from the new UD Oilers Collection (will mean 24 cards total) and I'd love to be able to locate a few more of the letters from last year's ITG Motown Madness. Of 14 cards (they split each letter in RANFORD in half) I've got 8. Would also like to find some more 1/1 stuff (those numbers I mentioned before don't include 1/1s) but the rest is a bigger priority for me, save for "true" 1/1 stuff like a shield, etc.

    - Continue to build my Oilers collection. Lots of RCs from new players this year, lots of autos to pick up. Big thing - keep searching for TTM opertunities on guys from the 80s & 90s I'm still missing. It works.

    - Build out at least one, maybe 2, 80s OPC set. Thinking it's going to be 88-89 or 82-83.

    - Clear the glut of hockey cards I've got at home! I have soooooo much stuff that's a mixture of unorganized, and boxed away to never see the light of day :( Some nice stuff, some mediocre stuff, some kinda weak stuff. COMC has become a big help for me on this. Mailing it off to them, or an Expo drop off, gets all the work out of my hands for a nominal fee. Have already done 500, then 1000, and now another 265 cards sent to them. Would really like to have a lot of 2k+ ready to drop off to them @ the Toronto Expo in the spring.

    - Build out a 90s Master Set, or two. Right now I'm thinking of 93-94 Leaf (one of my all time favorite looking base sets), 94-95 Score (I collected this one like crazy back in the day. Have the base set and 1-per-pack gold parallels already.... it's the inserts and hypothetically mail-order platinum I'd need). Also been thinking of doing an "all time proset" collection. I've got 90-91 & 91-92 basesets, but would add 92-93, all inserts, and errors (the reasonable ones - not the silly Neal Broten variations, for example) plus their "premium brands" ProSet Platinum & Parkhurst (with Emeralds) with inserts.

    - Continue to build back UD base sets + Short Prints. I'm only missing 3 base sets (a couple of series 1s, and a series 2) from 94-97... but still missing lots of SPs from the late 90s / early 00s. Just finished 02-03, and have everything from then & newer complete (save for this year).

    - Upper Deck Edmonton Oilers Collection!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm in love with this set :) The Team Logo Patches are great (I've got 10/100) the Monumental Patches will look cool once I can get a set of 24, the Championship Banners / Retired Numbers may be the best Manufactured Patches of all time. Toss in a massive auto'd set, and 5-per-box parallels.... and this is going to be a fun and challenging product. I just hope that the fact I don't have 1000s to spend in the next month doesn't make this stuff impossible to find.

    Is that enough? lol

I like to add to this thread each year. Good place to document what I want to accomplish for next year

-Continue adding to my sharks collection. I'm at around 1850 different cards right now and am hoping to acquire many more over the course of the next year. Maybe someday I'll have enough to apply for team collector status but most importantly I would like to just enjoy adding more cards.

-This kind of relates to the first one but I would like to have little mini PC goals which I think would keep me as interested as ever in the chase of new sharks cards. I've had some ideas but still unsure what I would like to choose.

-Find a way to scan all the cards in my collection. This one will take a while but I would like to have my whole collection scanned. The SCF inventory is giving me trouble trying to upload pictures so I might have to try and use another route

-Figure out a budget for my hockey cards. I am not having issues over spending (thank god) but I find I'm not using my money wisely when it comes to the hobby. I enjoy opening boxes but I think my money could be better spent on PC items that I would need instead of busting boxes to hope for good traders. I'm thinking of getting rid of all my traders and just resorting to buying cards for the PC online while keeping some sort of weekly or monthly budget but that might not be as much fun as opening boxes. I will have to find a happy medium

I think that's all. Looking forward to seeing others goals and maybe keeping track of my own over the next year

    1. To seek professional help

    2. Disregard # 1, and organize collection focusing on higher ends.

    3. Slow down the Tavares collection, I figure 5 years worth of autos (plus the pre NHL-ITG ones) is enough. Will grab the new releases if they fall on my lap.

    4. Create my top 10 single card hitlist, and find at least five of them.

    5. Stick to the monthly budget, currently $300 but those big months with Cup and or Dominion releases pushing me close to 600, so plan ahead.

    It's pretty simple for me:
    1. Slim my set wants down to the 3-5 rare sets (leaving me with my draft prospects autos, 11-12 score variations and 97-98 bap autos)
    2. Go 90% on non-1/1s of Cizikas, Derek King and Matt Dzieduszycki
    3. Kill off my complete isles project list (only around 20 more cards)
    4. Get rid of most of my traders and slowly phase out of the hobby in a large amount

I'll aim for 2 simple goals:

    1. Get my Sens PC up to at least 100 cards with half being auto'ed
    2. Acquire at least 10 Erik Karlsson auto's through trades. This is proving pretty difficult so far.

    Wish me luck!!!

I love these types of threads. My goals are:

    1. Reach 500 different Jonathan Toews cards (only need roughly 5 cards)
    2. Complete a set that is not base
    3. Make it to one of the two Expos in Toronto

Looking forward to seeing everyone else's goals!

Plenty of "real world" goals I hope to attend to, but hobby-wise my main goal is to continue the Sedin supercollection as economically as possible (resisting the urge to buy the first of a given card at a premium price). I hit some big milestones last year (2500 unique mainstream release cards in the PC and 100 of those being 1/1's)... A couple milestones to chase this year would be 250 cards with both twins (only a handful away, should be easy) and depending how many ITG promo cards there are this year might be able to hit the century mark of promo/expo 1/1 cards. As always looking to fill the older gaps in my PC, hopefully find at least one of the dozen cards from 2012 and earlier that I need. Lastly, I'm nearly there, this year my goal is to finish scanning and finding appropriate storage for the oddball stuff of various sizes that is sitting in a pile waiting to be organized.
