Commissioner Gary Bettman Autograph - Would You Want One?
Here's a thought - would anybody be interested in collecting a Gary Bettman autograph if one of the card companies were to produce and release it?
I know that The Commish isn't exactly the most popular guy around, especially during labour negotiations, but he's been in the job for 20 years now and is a central figure of the NHL.
We've had Fans of the Game, Voices of the Game, and other non-player related autographed content.
And if such a card were to be produced, I'd say that a natural home for it would be The Cup (UD) or Dominion (Panini) given the namesakes and his most prominent role on TV every spring.
Discuss.

I wouldn't cross the street to relieve myself on it if it was on fire, and that's the nicest way I can put that :)
I have a Future Trends hand-signed Alan Eagleson because it fits with the rest of my Summit Series autos, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get one that wasn't related. I wouldn't buy a Bob Goodenow or Donald Fehr auto. I bought a Michael Ontkean Fans of the Game auto because he was in Slap Shot but I wouldn't buy a Willa Ford or Alyssa Milano.
Bettman may run the NHL but he has no connection to the game for me. Just my opinion though.

I will always have the satisfaction of playing 4-5 times per week for more than 20 years, where Bettman cannot even skate. He can have my autograph anytime, as people like myself pay his wage with all the money I have spent on tickets, merchandise, cards, sponsorship, travel etc.
My company had season's tickets in 4 Canadian NHL rinks for years, and still does, all my doing, so I've done my part.
I don't want his autograph as he is a meaningless entity to me.

I won't claim to agree with everything he's done over the years, but for the most part - I like the job he's done.
Would I want to own a card like that? I would depend on the price. I'm guessing "no" becuase it would sell for $100+ (assuming they made one, and it was fairly limited).
Change the question to: "If you were buying signed index cards from a reliable seller, and were able to add a cheap on of Bettman to your other purchases, would you do it?" Then the answer is "Yup, already did it".

Personally, I wouldn't mind one, but, with that in mind...I've taken to the business side of the game lately, I'm looking to pick up a Clarence Campbell. but, I wouldn't pay big money for one.

I personally wouldn't want it because I don't like the guy but I agree if you're going to have all of these other autos it's good to include the Commish.
I'd like that Alyssa Milano FOTG auto if it ever came down to Earth.
Wouldn't mind a series of GM autos either. "Brains of the Game" ;)

You realize that you're talking about people that gave the likes of Scott Gomez, Chris Drury, Brian Campbell, etc. mega-million dollar contracts here, right? LOL
