    Crosby and Ovechkin Rookies

I have refocused my collection a little and shifted toward star players rookies cards that will hold their value. I was focusing on Ovechkin mainly. I also acquired a few Malkins (FWA, SPX) and Crosby SPX Rookie Auto. Anyways I saw a few auctions back in November and the prices shocked me they were a lot cheaper than I expected. Unfortunately I had no cash at the time.

Are these the prices that I should expect or are they lower than usual? I know they don't pop up often but when they do I want to get a few but I don't want to overpay either. I see others but the prices are far away from what they went for auction.

    Crosby FWA $503 http://www.ebay.com/itm/181-732-999-...item19e5396ae2
    Crosby Ultimate RC Auto /299 $430 http://www.ebay.com/itm/91-103-299-2...item2c76af1346
    Crosby Hot Prospects 3 CLR RPA $511, $449 (2CLR) http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-06-Flee...item27db9db7ad, http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-06-Priz...item565e6cf875
Crosby SPX RC Auto $325 http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-06-SPX-...item3a887df031

Ovechkin Ultimate RC Auto /299 $213 (Auction Link expired)
    Ovechkin Hot Prospects (2Clr) $162 http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-06-Priz...item565e6cde94
Ovechkin SPX RC Auto $137 http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-2006-Al...item43c14deada

Im asking because I would like to pick up some but I dont want to overpay. The Crosby's seem low especially the Ultimate. LMK what you think Thanks!

Are Crosby Rookies holding steady in terms of re-sale price? I know that Ovechkins have taken a huge dive from say 2 years ago in terms of price.

That's the problem I have only been collecting for around 3 years and I don't know what they went for before and I have not seen too many sell so that's why I am asking. I know Ovechkin has come down but I have no clue on Crosby. Thanks for your input!

Crosby rookies have done nothing but dive. Those are dirt cheap prices on Ebay.

these are 2 awesome players, generational talent, both will be in the HOF.
both have a big fanbase, the prices are way too low.
You can see that something is brutally wrong with the hobby, using these auctions as an example.

its all hype, Mackinon yg BV 80...Ovy's could be had for 45-50 during his slump, back up to 70 or so...its just that, a Hobby, buy gold if you want to invest....maybe, even that is manipulated by insiders...:/

There's nothing wrong with the hobby... at least not that you can tell from the pricing on these cards. Every year there are more and more Ovechkin and Crosby cards issued... so the market is getting more and more saturated. Its really about supply and demand along with perceived rarity. 500 dollars for a FWA (of which there were 1000 made) of Crosby sounds realistic to me based on that.

I am on your side with saturation in general, but not in case of the limited high end RC cards of such megastars.

even though I am not a crosby-fan I would expect his RC's to raise and not to fall, because of the limited availablility.
But the reality is: prices are going down and down and down.

it is what it is, supply & demand. But I don't buy the saturation-thing on RC-cards (esp. SPA, The Cup, Ultimate etc.)
