Hull Cup Scripted Swatches. Something odd?
I recently picked up a couple of Brett Hull Scripted Swatches from the 2012-13 The Cup release for my PC. The more I look at these cards the more I am convinced something just doesn't look right about the patches on the cards. To me it looks like the patches have been removed from a jersey and then reapplied. I have two of these cards and both appear this way.
If you look at the close up scan of the patch on both cards you can see where the white thread or stitching has been removed from the red/white layer of the patch. In my opinion this would have been the stitching attaching the patch to the jersey. You can also see along the white edge of the patch, that the patch has been trimmed/cut. Then along the edge of the where the white part of the patch meets the blue jersey, you can see a darker area that appears to be adhesive.
Take a look and feel free to share you opinions. Thanks

My guess is the jersey was not well made and maybe was not used for long and set away. But I do not see UD playing with the jersey and put this in their top of the line brand. Jesery back then could have been repaired also and why it's done this way. Hard to tell from just those cards. But come from the same jersey, that I am pretty sure since it's from the same release. Could be a situation where there was not other jersey available and they add to do one really fast.

Not sure here either... but my only real question is why does one of them have the auto on the patch, and the other on the card??

My guess is that they were damaged during a game and repaired or replaced afterwards by the team. They didn't wear different jerseys every games back then.
UD could have done something but I see no reason for them to touch it. If they did do something why would they move it 1 centimeter down?
I would almost bet everything I own that this was the team repairing the jerseyFlickr: Hidden Content

Major, MAJOR red flag on those patches. I do a lot of patch research and fake-spotting, and that looks way too sloppy to be authentic and the material isn't what they wore then. If I had the time to really dig into it I could find multiple examples of game worn Blues patches from the mid-90's that look nothing like that. I say UD used a fraudulent jersey.

When the Blues jerseys had red in them, the Yellow was much more orange looking. That yellow is the wrong Blues yellow. Period …..

Is it possible he played in an Old-Timer, or Alumni game, or something? Remember, according to UD those are "official NHL games."

I have seen a couple of these that Brett signed on the card instead of the patch. I guess he choose that to be a better option then trying to sign across the small section of patch. I actually prefer the card that is not signed on the patch.

I'm by no means a GU jersey expert, but wonder, is it possible there was a backing material behind the jersey? Perhaps the backing material made the patch to bulky to include in the card, so UD may have picked out the stitching and removed the backer?
Googling around a bit it, not sure if it's just a matter of lighting, but there are some pics of Hull in jerseys where the yellow looks very, uh, yellow, as opposed to orange-y... for example http://blues.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8448091
