Panini Peek: 2013-14 Crown Royale Hockey
A few aspects of the 2013-14 Crown Royale Hockey sales solicitation that just crossed my email inbox really struck me, so I figured I’d begin this Panini Peek preview with these thoughts: Crown Royale’s trademark Silhouettes remain some of the coolest cards you’ll ever see, no matter how many times in how many different sports you see them — and you’ll see them again (with a few aesthetic tweaks) when 2013-14 Crown Royale Hockey releases in late February.
Something else you’ll see, as I did almost immediately when scouring the solicitation, is that 2013-14 Crown Royale Hockey features some elaborate new die-cutting that injects considerable pop to cards from the Regal Achievements and Heirs to the Throne inserts.

Another cheap looking product added to the market for 13-14...
I am getting tired of all those products ! I would love the compagny to have only 2-3 products !

Outside of ITG products, not many products caught my attention this year. Team Canada was fun, and I'm still working on the subsets. One box of UD 1 in my hunt for a Galchenyuk RC, and group breaks sometimes.
I looked at the new Titanium, it looks really bad for it's price point. Return on the money was horrible with Select too. I had some success with Prizm blasters at release, the parallels were hot on ebay.

IMO, the best of 13-14 yet, is Dominion.
Each compagny should have only 1 high end and 1 low end product only. It would help the hobby to keep value etc..
Panini: National Treasure, Dominion, Score
UD: The Cup, UD Series 1-2, Black Diamond, SPa
ITG: H&P, Superlative, Ultimate
OPC: OPC
Should not be produced.. Cheap or not at the good price point and doesnt help the hobby to keep is value:
- Prizm, Select, Enforcers, Artifacts, Trilogy, Fleer, Certified, Limited, Prime, SPGU and many more !!!Last edited by GoHabsGo89; 01-12-2014 at 08:39 PM.

It seems that Panini has set their course and will not stray from it.
Not only are they basing the majority of their products resurrected sets of the past, (score, donruss, certified, titanium, limited, select, prizm, elite, luxury suite and prizm) they show little or no imagination with the designs. They are merely regurgitating prior designs.
The only products that Panini can call their own are Contenders,Prime and Dominion ; one low end, one mid-to-high end and one ultra-high end.Hidden Content

the collecting community would be much better off, if it were kept to this checklist.

While it would be nice to have a limit on the products, these companies need to remain profitable, and that is why we have so many products. Panini's release planning could definitely be better (I think the Titanium release was too close to Dominion, which is one of its best products), but there really is no easy fix to this problem. If you haven't already, check out Brad's article on CNC about the state of the hobby, it's a pretty good read, and he is going to be writing a couple more about the same topic.
