Bob Feller Museum Closed

I received an e-mail this morning that the Bob Feller Museum has closed. I visited the foundation site and the store has shut down.

Frankly, I was surprised the foundation/family was still selling his autographed baseballs. I'm glad I just bought one in November with the 1962 HOF inscription. Overall, it's too bad because there were other fill-in purchases I hoped to make through the store, especially for deceased players.

The museum is only closed for Jan, Feb, and March however or so the information on the site says. I was a member of the museum 5-6 years ago a few years past bob fellers death. I received a newsletter a few years back and it sound as though they are not doing well finacially. I always try to buy a few things from there a year to help out, as they have some decent price items. This december bought a milo hamiltion hof signed and inscribed Holy Toledo baseball for $30 plus shipping. They have decent prices on their autograph guest as well, not as good as 5 years ago but reasonable.

I didn't think it would be feasible for them to stay open forever..they're going to eventually run out of Feller memorabilia. Regardless, I've been to the museum itself and really enjoyed the visit and always make sure I buy something from their booth at Twinsfest. They've always had some of the most reasonable prices for HOF autographs.

The opening sentence of their e-mail says this:

"As of Jan 6, 2014, the products and autograph services the museum provided over the past two decades has stopped."

It sounds like the museum will stay open, but the Bob Feller Museum store is done.

I just the email a little while ago and you are right sounds like the museum will stay open, but that the signings and memorabilia part of the museum will cease. The feller website says that the musuem will reopen in March. But the email says the store and autographs will stop. The year before feller passed I bought a baseball on christmas sale the autograph, with HOF inscriptin with 107.5 mph inscription for 59.00 and if your spent $50 dollars you got a free 8 x 10 signed feller photo. They also used to give you two free autograph tickets when you were a $100 yearly member I would pay that 100 and then send a baseball and get a free autograph twice per year. I think I got a free wade boggs, and then got a Robin Yount but since he was a bit more expensive I had to pay an additional $20 to my free autograph ticket, but was a great deal. I did this through them for 3-4 years. I hope this new place keeps it reasonable as I have noticed inscriptions getting higher and higher.

Glad I bought that Feller 8x10 earlier this year when I did. But yeah, the site is on my bookmarks for autographs and I'm disappointed to hear that that part is closing.

So what does this mean for Doug Harvey? He was an exclusive with the Feller museum when it came to signing the HOF plaque cards.

I almost brought up doug harvey in my last post my guess though is he is exclusive with the autograph people who were providing autograph services and not the Feller Museum itsself.

Well....this sucks...What a great thing the museum was doing for collectors. Their prices were extremely fair (for the most part). I knew it was inevitable after Fellers passing. They only had so much inventory. Makes me kinda sad that I never took advantage of the museums prices for balls. I just started collecting like 6 months ago, and found the Feller Museum about 2 months back. I kept telling myself to get a ball through them, but just never did. It was kind of an abrupt end though, kinda surprising.

I am not sure that the museum might not still have stuff to sell , I am thinking that the company that set up all the signings and handled the signings is just not long being employed by the museum. I am hoping that when the museum reopens that it will still have the store with what items it still had in its inventory. On the other side those items might be the property of the autograph vendor and they were running the store for them.

This whole thing makes me very interested in what is going to happen to Doug Harvey signed HOF Postcards. He was only signing them through the museum so this might open up some opportunities. Or he'll never sign a HOF postcard again. Fingers crossed for the former.
