Why are MCW autos so expensive?

Just getting back into the collecting game, and really like MCW.

I know he's the best rookie out there, but those prices rival Wall and Irvie cards when they first came out.

Is it just supply and demand? Idk, 100 bucks for his auto seems a bit high.

In my honest opinion, MCW is a bad investment. He came out of nowhere, started out great early on, and became the hottest rookie in a not so great rc crop. Same thing happened with Brandon Jennings in 09-10, look where his stuff is at now. People are already speculating on how great next year's rc crop will be and that's not good for the longterm value of MCW stuff. I would predict has value will have a big dip down the line.

Exactly what I'm doing with Oladipo. Even his autos are reaching $100+. I'm sure come next years draft his prices will drop, especially if the Magic are able to draft one of the big names.

I realize that many peoples "demand" is $100+ but for me an auto over $45-$50 is way too much. $20-$30 is more my range no matter who it is especially for a brand spankin' new card. I don't think I've payed any more than $40 for ANY ONE single card. (Now I did pay $75 for a 1982 Topps Baseball Traded Cal Ripken RC but I got the full Traded set of 132 cards and the box for that 75 bucks) Now for some of the guys who played in the vintage days or guys like Jordan or Bird I can see paying a paycheck or rent's worth but for a new rookie who has barely seen any action?

I wish that the HYPE for Bryce Harper would die down so I can get a 2012 Topps Baseball Archives 241 Bryce Harper RC SSSSSP card for a reasonable price not $100+ I don't care if they only made 50 of them (they made a lot more than just 50) I ain't paying $100+ for a brand new card.

That one isn't really hype. That's more to do with set collectors. A lot of people are going after that set and will need that card. The only way it will take a hit will be is if Harper tanks and I don't see that happening.

I often chuckle at how quickly people will throw their money at the Flavor of the Month, incidentally. The newest and slickest. People were throwing down big money for Prizm retail parallels of Damian Lillard last year, for instance - again, nice player, but a guy who will be no better than Russell Westbrook. Few will remember him 20 years from now.

Oh well. All the more cheap $5 Elvin Hayes autos for me.
