Collection Stats in the UD/Panini Era - Carey Price

With the end of Panini's license looming on the horizon it's had me reflecting a little bit about the past few years and the collecting experience. I'm likely to do something similar with my Gorges collection, and perhaps an overall PC stat line, in the near future as well just to see the numbers. How much have I dedicated to each company in the years from 2010-11 to present? The numbers are certainly interesting.

    2010-11
Total Base Inserts/Parallels MEM AU AU/MEM
    ITG 10 1 2 5 2
    Other 1 1
    Panini 38 9 4 22 3
    UD 16 10 2 3 1
    65 21 6 29 8 1

    2011-12
Total Base Inserts/Parallels MEM AU AU/MEM
    ITG 12 1 2 7 2
    Other 1 1
    Panini 14 3 1 6 2 2
    UD 10 6 1 1 2
    37 11 4 14 6 2

    2012-13
Total Base Inserts/Parallels MEM AU AU/MEM
    ITG 12 0 1 10 1
    Other 2 2
    Panini 4 1 2 1
    UD 14 3 3 4 3 1
    32 5 5 16 5

    2013-14 (to date)
Total Base Inserts/Parallels MEM AU AU/MEM
    ITG
    Other 1 1
    Panini 6 1 1 4 1
    UD 14 7 6 1
    21 2 8 10 1 1

    TOTALS
Base Inserts/Parallels MEM AU AU/MEM Total
    ITG 2 5 22 5 34
    Other 5 5
    Panini 13 7 34 6 3 63
    UD 19 11 13 9 2 54
    TOTALS 39 23 69 20 4 156

Interesting to see the breakdown like this. Panini is my overall leader in total cards and memorabilia from the past four hobby years. I chalk up a lot of that to the 2010-11 Certified release, where I've got 12 MEM cards from that one release alone. If we look at "just the hits" (jerseys, autos) they've got a wide margin over both ITG and UD over the course of their license. They've definitely made a lot of nice cards that have key places in my Price collection. Of note, all of my Upper Deck autos from the past four years are hard-signed pieces, and only one Panini auto is a sticker auto to boot.

It would be a fun exercise to pick out a "top ten" from each company, and then try to further combine those into an "ultimate top ten" from this past hobby era.

I know that everybody's got an opinion on the new licensing agreement, what they think about Panini, etc. so this was a neat exercise for me. I have always subscribed to the "collect what you like" theory, and it turns out that I've definitely enjoyed the offerings of all three companies producing hockey cards. I'm going to miss Panini for sure. Just wait until I do those Gorges numbers for further proof. Hahaha

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I'm assuming the numbers your list show only the cards you have obtained? 2013-14 Artifacts alone has 18 Price parallels, many super low numbered. Enough to make you pull your hair out!

Yes this is just my collection stat line. Running the numbers on what each company has produced would be vastly higher. LOL
