Getting cards graded

Hi, I'm new to this forum but not to baseball cards although I haven't collected anything in years. Anyway, I brought out my old collection and really want to get some of my better cards graded. Here's my question(s):

Should I submit my cards to BGS or PSA? What are the major differences between these companies? Do any of you have strong preferences one way or the other and if so why? I've heard BGS is a tougher grader than PSA... any truth to this? Do BGS graded cards fetch better prices than PSA or vise-versa? Basically I just want to get the best grades possible so that my cards hold their value better...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

I prefer bgs, i find it does fetch more money. Also what cards are you thinking about getting graded?

Thanks for the input... I have rookie card of griffey jr, bonds, a-rod, gwynn, call ripken jr, schilling, and jeter to name a few. Nothing too spectacular but I love these cards as they remind me of when I was much younger and OBSESSED with baseball and baseball cards.

In your opinion, is it worth it for me to get these cards graded? I've noticed that the Beckett values for these cards are significantly less than their value if they were graded... at least from what I'm seeing on ebay.

these seem like pretty common rookies, so only get them graded if you think they will grade above the avg. grade

The cost associated with grading them almost nullifies the reason for doing it. If you can pull a 10 (highly unlikly) then it is worth it for such common cards.

So when is it "worth it" to get cards graded? Obviously if they are worth hundreds of dollars or if you think you can get a 9.5 or higher... any other times when it would make sense to send them in for grades?

Also, how much does a card really increase in value when it is graded, assuming it gets a good grade? For example, Beckett lists an 89 UD Griffey Rookie at a high of $40. My card seems to be in perfect condition (I'm sure BGS could find something wrong... but nonetheless it should be very close to perfect) so should I send that in?

look on ebay, see how much they go for ungraded and graded, see if its worth it
