What to get for 7 year old...
So I used to collect cards when I was younger, unfortunately in the 90-94 years when it appears everyone and their brother did the same! So have several sets of Upper Deck, score, etc in my basement. Recently my son has gotten into hockey big time and for his body I picked up a Kessel 50/499 Sweet Shot card as he's a huge a Kessel fan.
He's also taken an interest in collecting stickers for a Panini album, and I was considering maybe getting him a box of cards or two for his bday in mid March.
Have to say the number of different types of cards is intimidating. Would love to get him something that may be of value in 20 years But not sure there is much under 200 a box that is valuable (and even then is questionable it seems).
Was thinking maybe a box of Stickwork though admittedly I'd be more intriguedbthan he would be of that box, so maybe I would just get that one for myself!
Curious what others would recco for him, and in any event whether they think a box or ITG would be a good buy for me just for the fun of it!
Thanks!

I almost always tell kids to go with Score and/or O-Pee-Chee to get started. Reasonable price, fun sets, chance of some really good cards (though nothing you see from higher level sets).
If you're looking to retain a little value without spending $200 on a box of cards, Upper Deck Series 1/2 or Artifacts are good choices.

You should go to Target if you have one near you, they have pretty cool variety boxes.
$15 for 10 packs in a box
$25 for 20 packs in a box + a hit
The packs are usually victory, mvp, ud, opc with one better one per box like elite, artifacts, trilogy, donruss...
It's great bang/variety for your buck... I usually toss one in whenever I'm there just to satisfy by pack opening addiction lol
Walmart also has a similar box, I think it's 16 packs for $25 or something.

So UD series 1 may have some value? Assume Artifacts would be much better value wise? May get my brother and in laws to also buy him a box.

bang for buck or consistency at the price level; ud1 is by far the best choice
if you want more risk/reward for 100 bucks a box artifacts.

Hey guys, just looking at UD series 1, looks like they have a retail box and a more expensive hobby box. Are the hobby boxes the ones to get as they come with more young guns etc?
Thinking of getting a box of stock work for myself (they look super cool) and 2 to 3 boxes of series 1 for my son.
Also, what is the best way to store the stock works cards, magnetic holders?

i would never buy retail anything, you will get the same young guns but with almost 0% chance of hitting anything else
the stickwork cards come in their own magnetic one-touch, you dont need to buy one :)

Can't go wrong with UD 1 for sure, & Score and/or OPC usually gives a really wide variety of players per box. If you're looking for a dice roll, Artifacts & SPX can provide some decent value at a decent price point
