Hey guys, as some of you know, I'm a geologist. Part of my job is actually conducting research on this very issue. I'll post tonight when I have a chance, laying down what the science world believes, and what's wrong with those reports that claim it isn't happening at all.

    ok

there is no way I can say humans have not messed up stuff to a certain extent.
but how can you explain the drastic ice ages, then earth reheating up over and over, before we were around doing anything?
I just cannot see this unknown natural pattern not being at least a part of equation.
During the last 2.6 million years or so in the Quaternary period, ice ages, also called glacial ages, were times of extreme cooling of the Earth's climate where ice sheets and other types of glacier expanded to cover large areas of land. Between ice ages there were warmer interglacial periods and we are now living during such a time.

What causes ice ages is not completely understood. The composition of the atmosphere, changes in the position of our planet around the Sun, and changes in ocean currents are some of the important factors that control the climate.

That is when they showed most of their cowardice.

You are talking about changes in climate that occur over periods of time that dwarf our own recorded history. It's apples and oranges.

Do you recall what was going on when he came into office? That may have a little bit to do with what he accomplished while he had the ability to do anything. It is undeniable that since the Republicans got control of the House, they have not attempted to compromise on anything. And even worse than that, they have admitted to, having Obama fail, as their one and only goal.

If we are at a period between ice ages, then we would be warming up for a while. and everything I can find says we are between them.
again, not saying humans play no role, but we give ourselves too much credit, but I guess it goes with our big egos.

wouldnt humans and anything they do be just a part of natural evolution?

and humans are a higher form of life that can alter their environment be a theist ideal?

    just a thought

glad the global warming people finally realized the globe was warming 10-15 thousand year late but better than never.
wait till the earth reaches normal operating temperatures, good times, but then it will go into another iceage and everything dies.

When you say "natural evolution" are you talking about evolution from the strict standpoint that life evolved by purely natural means without the help of anything else?

If so, everything we do DOES affect our environment to some effect under this viewpoint.

I wouldn't say that humans are a "higher life form of life" because our trait is intelligence, but there are traits we can't do such as breathe under water or fly or have eyes that can see clearly for miles into the distance.

Actually, one reason why fundamentalist christians deeply oppose global warming is for the very fact that they disagree that humans can alter their environment to such a level.

They believe only god can do that.....and if humans can do that, then maybe god isn't in complete control....and that thought scares a lot of them.
