Dumb move by the Habs. No chance at the Cup this year, so what is the point?

Bergevin looks good with this move and scoops Boston and the Ducks, who probably don't need anymore to win it all.
Looks like they gave up NO roster players for Vanek.

Seemingly it hasn't cost them much.

The gave up:
Sebastian Collberg
A 2nd Round Pick
If Vanek makes them good enough to get a 3rd home game in the first round instead of just 2, it's worth it.
The East is wide open... there's a very good chance they'll draw the Leafs or Bolts in the first round.... so why not add a guy like this, and see what happens?

Joy. Especially if they can re-sign him.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Red Wings AGAIN pay too much for a median player. Legwand cost them Partick Eaves, a 3rd rounder, and a Prospect. Eaves and a Prospect was all I would have offered.
Red Wings 4 years in a row now, on the road to nowhere.

Not going to happen. Vanek has already publicly stated that he is determined to test the free agent market, which is why he turned down the HUGE boatload of cash that the Islanders threw at him.
I was anxious to see what Collberg could do in a Habs uniform. Hopefully Vanek picks his game up, but I'm not sold on this trade.
