Do you love the last line of defense in hockey? Between The Pipes is all about netminders. The 150-card base set highlights prospects, current stars and retired legends that have made their mark as goalies. The current stars are featured from behind with horizontal photos, prospects are captured from the front and the Greats of the Game have closeups (both of which are vertical photos). You will come close to completing the set, but it will take two boxes (ideally) to accomplish the feat. Cards use a glossy stock along with a revamped designed from previous years.
There are two insert chase sets in Between The Pipes, along with the popular He Shoots, He Saves point cards. The HSHS program gives a use to the normal blank decoy cards. On the front is a puzzle piece from various subjects. Each subject has nine pieces that when put together complete a photo. If you do not want to save the pieces in that fashion, you can amass 150 and redeem them for a limited memorabilia card. There is a checklist of 30 cards with only 20 of each being produced.
Immortals is a 45-card set that features many of the litany of famous goaltenders to grace the sport that are no longer with us. From Georges Vezina to Pelle Lindbergh, this set is definitely a who's who of pad, stick and glove notoriety. Masked Men have been a highly collectible set for many years. This year's rendition is called Masked Men 6. There are three levels with the red (base), silver and gold. The silver and gold versions are typically limited in number (usually less than 100). The cards feature up close shots of the goaltenders along with a nice look at their various mask designs.
On average, each box will yield two autographs and two relics. However, because of the odds, many boxes will contain either 1-2 additional hits. There are a multitude of sets to collect with a variety of relics. There is even a nice assortment of vintage memorabilia swatches. Be on the looking for single, dual, quad and six player pieces. Definitely a great mix of old and new.
