    Rookie value (beckett and Ebay)

Hi, so I have question to the more experienced here:

Does people pay attention to age on the rookies?

I collect Fasth, he is no prospect and he want make many seasons in the NHL. (born in 1982) ( I dont collect as an investment :) )

I see that his cards are valued the same as the other rookies (not the big ones)

He and Brock Nelson often have the same value. Brock Nelson is born in 1991.

Is it because there is so many set-collectors? Would love your input!

    Thanks

i don't take rookie's age into account when gauging value...most rookies will be under 25. Fasth is just an anomaly.

I don't think age has much to do with it. He's not a rookie in the sense that he's a young, developing player.... but these are the first NHL cards of him, so for North American collectors - he is a rookie.

Not a big name, like MacKinnon, but the bump in value players get.... just for being rookies.... that applies to Fasth as much as anyone else.

I personally do. If a 24 year old and a 19 year old have a RC from the same series, and both end up with 60 pts for the season, I'd pay more for the 19 yr old then the older player. Mainly because I'd feel the 19 year old has a bigger upside. I know it's not always the case, take Martin St. Louis, he was 24-25 and he turned out to be all right, or Hasek at 27 or 28 and he turned out to be a top 5 goalie of all time, so there's always the odd guy.

Age is less of a consideration than draft position, location, and hype.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

My observation is that age is definitely considered but not usually the primary factor. Fasth is a goalie, too, which is always worth a bump. I think people (including myself) were impressed by his 8-0-0 start last year and his polished game, possibly thinking that he could lead Anaheim to a Cup (something which I still think Hiller cannot do).

With the trade to Edmonton, his cards in a Ducks uniform will fade to semi-star levels (already have) but Beckett is notoriously slow to downgrade so you'll see many "deals" on eBay when compared to BV.

I personally was making a nice little PC of Fasth but have stopped looking for his cards.

Age matters to me to an extent. 30 is just too old to be a rookie but he could still have a solid 10 year career
