Well, I'm sort of in the same situation. The other day I finally opened a big box of storage boxes of cards that I hadn't even opened or even thought about since moving them here with me 7 years ago. I have a box of inserts that i looked at, posted for sale here not munch interest. The big monster box that's there I lifted the lid. It's got various sets from early to mid 90s, some complete (base) some not. I'm going to go through them, make a list of what sets, card #'s and list them here to see if anyone would need them to help finish thier sets. Even if there are players I collect, not gonna bother with them. So I guess I'm saying if you can move them go for it.

It depends on what you mean by "all my base cards".

Me: I like sets. I build sets. I wouldn't unload my sets, not at all. Like you've said.... they just take up space. I'm going to be donating 5k, or more, newer base to charity this weekend (one of the vendors @ the Expo takes donations.... and then gives them to sick kids). I just want to be rid of the extra stuff. No room for it, and no real value to it.

That's the thing... you build a set like UD Series 1. I typically go through 5 or 6 of boxes of the stuff, but outside of 1 base set.... what else do I need from it?? By the time I'm half way through box #2, the base set is finished.... and I'm just looking for the "hits".

90s base, there isn't even a market to give them to kids (which makes sense, I mean... sure a donation is a donation, but giving cards to kids, of players they've never heard of, what's the point??). I've got a lot of mid-90s stuff that if I could get around to sorting out.... pulling out the good stuff.... I will literally throw 90% of it in the trash.

If you've built sets, I see no great reason to ditch them, but if you're talking about boxes of doubles... stuff that you've got no attacment to.... no need to keep.... if you can get even half a cent per card, I'd take it!

MAY have an opportunity to move all my base cards (about 8000-10000 cards) for a fair price; I'm just not sure if I should or not?

I recently cleaned up my better cards into keepers and sellers and now I have the cards I collect and all my base cards. If I sell all my base cards it will DRASTICALLY clean up my collection, saving space, and give me money lol. BUUUUUUT, it would change the way I collect cards for the rest of my life.

I have hoarded basically everything since I was a kid, and if I only have the best cards and sets I collect I'll only be one of those people who want 'hits'. Not sure I wanna do that for the rest of my love, I love cards!!

Either way, I just want thoughts.... Pros: save space, make money, it's only base cards. Cons: it's ALL my base cards, will change how I view the hobby.

    Thoughts?

Don't be a hoarder, take the money that you can actually feel in a roll in the front pocket of your jeans. When you die, they aren't going to dump what will then be about 100,000 cards into the casket with you.

Whomever is left behind will sell them and smile at their windfall.

As others have said, move them out. I keep a couple of base sets from each year but that's about it. Unorganized base cards? No thanks. I give mine to my LCS as they do a lot of set-building for resale purposes. Helps them, clears out my card space. Win-win.

It depends on what kind of base. From premium sets?? Maybe. Low-mid end sets?? I've never had any luck.

I've found in the past that star player lots.... something like "take these 25 Ovechkin cards for $3 shipped" can work, but that's about it.

Literally ALL my base cards; I enjoy set collecting but unless it's in a top loader i rarely look at them again....it would be hard to let go but would help long term

Over the years, I've become pretty much indifferent to the whole base/low end scene. Knowing you're in Ottawa, I'm not sure there's much you can do. CHEO and Ronald McDonald won't accept cards, at least from my experience. Shepherds of Good Hope on Murray St. accepted cards as recently as 6 months ago, so that might be worth a try.

Private buyer actually, which would be great!

Thanks so much for all of your input! more opinions welcome for sure! I am still unsure what I'm gonna do :s

Within the last 2 years I also moved ALL my base cards. Just under 40,000 of them. I didnt take anything out. Left all the Gretzkys / Lemieux / Crosbys / Roys / etc etc.

It was strictly base, no inserts, no rookies, no parallels.

It was a trade / cash trade. I still have a few of the cards I traded for, the money I got from them went back into better singles for my collection ..... and my fiancee has neveer been happier, having 12 3200 count boxes out of the house.

As for myself, I dont miss them one bit
