Panini Gives First Look at National Treasures!

    http://paniniamerica.wordpress.com/2...asures-hockey/

If the 2013-14 product season really is the last you’ll see of Panini America on NHL ice for quite some time, the company plans on going out with a seismic collecting bang — the kind that can only be delivered by a product boasting the name “National Treasures.” Indeed, the first-ever National Treasures Hockey release may also the last National Treasures Hockey release. But what a way to go . . .
Earlier this week, Panini America HQ was on the receiving end of a spectacular first shipment of 2013-14 National Treasures Hockey cards. The cards were quickly counted, cataloged and QC’d before being expedited to the players on them to receive on-card autographs. Luckily, Panini America NHL Brand Manager Chris Barr tipped me off to the cards’ arrival so I could snap a few pre-ink pics before the cards got sent out.
And judging from this first glimpse of 2013-14 National Treasures Hockey, well, the product has the goods to back up the legendary brand name. From NHL Shield 1/1s of the all-time greats to a variety of 1/1 booklets honoring the stars of the 2013-14 #PaniniDoubleRookieClass, there’s certainly a lot of firepower in the gallery that follows. Check it out for yourself and just imagine how nice these cards will look once they’re signed.

Not a real fan of the design. I was expecting something better from national treasures. Too much white maybe they will look better with Autos. Also WAY TOO MANY BOOKLETS..... Panini is really hammering in booklets and its hurting the concept fast. Don't get me wrong I love the Playbook rookie autos.

I will only be buying singles as the price is too high but I am looking forward to future looks at this product.

I'm not really a fan of booklets either. I never liked them before but now they are common and don't have the value they had before the idea was run into the ground. Why would a prefer a card that is harder to display?

alot of white, but they will have autos on them when finished. But it looks like the shield autos will have side ways autos? That doesn't look good displayed IMO.

Clean and crisp. They'll look beautiful with signatures on them.

Why do companies not put actual game used cards in later releases? Rookies have been in real games since October. How hard can it be?

Most teams don't sell the game used jerseys until the season ends so, very hard to get them into any release

Because they have existing photoshoot stock that has to be used up and that has become their accepted business practice. A rookie gamer costs a premium, particularly vis-a-vis the stuff that is worn at the Rookie Photoshoot sessions. You think they'd be able to get 10 John Tavares rookie gamers for all of his Shield cards in 2009-10 Cup? You did not read that wrong. Tavares has 10 different Cup 1/1 Shields - no chance in Hades that UD has $25,000 (nor is there such an inventory) to buy ten game-used jerseys of a top-tier player like that. Multiply that by the number of other, lesser lights, that all get Shields in their Rookie season. It's cost prohibitive.

Say that again? Kidding but I did not know this. That's reeeeeeeeeeediculous, good Lord!

Someone mentioned above about Panini overdoing the booklets. That's the way this hobby goes though. New concept and then beat to death. Remember when jerseys came out? REMEMBER THE VALUE?
