Is The Washington Capitals Franchise
A Coaches Graveyard?
Discuss.
On the eve of Barry Trotz perhaps taking this job, I am worried for him. The Caps have been the NHL Franchise where you go to collect a pay-cheque without bothering to play. It's been that way since the franchise began.
But for a select dozen or so players like Gartner, Langway, Bondra, Hunter, Dino, and a few others, this franchise reeks of being nothing but milque-toast. It's like your boring Brother-In-law.

I would say it is, I was trying to think of great moments in Capitals history and really couldn't think of one.

All-time, I'd say it's between the Caps and the Penguins. Pretty sure Bylsma is the longerst tenured Pens coach, and that's likely coming to an end.
I don't know if I've ever noticed any kind of issue that's common with Capitals teams... You know, teams like the Canucks and Sabres have both been around for a long time without winning as well.

Washington Capitals.
One Stanley Cup Final appearance. Lost to the Red Wings 4 games straight, Peter Bondra too small to carry 20 other guys on his back.
Other than that, basically uninspired Hockey since the inception of the franchise. I don't understand how they have any season's ticket holders. They suck as bad as the Leafs.
Now Trotzy has a huge problem, how to take over the reigns of the team from Ovy who is becoming progressively moody as he grows older, as all Russians playing over here do.
I also lived in Fairfax Virginia for 2 Winters, so I saw the Caps in their new home a number of times, the real reason I think they get decent crowds is that the rink is linked to every transportation possibility in the nation. Lol. You can get with 25 feet of the rink by the Metro, or any Bus. via any nearby airport, suburb, and the 2 adjacent states.Last edited by centrehice; 05-28-2014 at 10:49 AM.

Why do you think Trotz has the problem? Care to elaborate?
Will be interesting to see if trotz can get the guys to buy into his system. He is a good coach he just never had this kind of
Healthily talent. I say that as he did have Peter and Paul in Nashville but birth at the end of their careers. Both could have made a huge impact if they could have played even close to their former levels of greatness.

Because Ovy has been running the team. However the new Manager, told Leonsis, that the GM and coach are boss, not the player. We shall see what happens

I played against Trotz in the 60's for the better part of 5 years back home. He was a hard, tough player and a stand-up guy, I just wish he had a job anyplace but there.
There are too many passengers on that team that stand around expecting Ovy to do everything, and when Ovy can't do everything, they have the media on their side to crucify him and whomever is coaching.
