Giguere Ready to Retire
After playing in the NHL for 18-years, Colorado goalie Jean-Sébastien Gigučre could have played his last game per TVA reporter Renaud Lavoie. Lavoie said in a tweet Sunday morning that Gigučre will speak with his agent and the NHLPA before making the announcement official. It could happen as soon as this week.
Gigučre played for five teams in his career, beginning his career at the end of the 1996-97 season with the Hartford Whalers. He was the 13th overall pick in 1995 and spent time with Halifax in the QMJHL before making the transition to the NHL. He would only play eight games for Hartford before they traded him the following summer to Calgary for Trevor Kidd and a couple other players. He spent most of his time with the Flames organization with their AHL affiliate in Saint John before being traded to Anaheim in 2000. His official rookie season came in 2000-01, where he carried a 11-17-5 record in 34 games.

Marty Brodeur posted 3 shutouts in the final against this guy. He beat him 3-0 Three times and won the Cup, and they still gave Giguere the Conn Smythe.
He can give it back to Marty. The biggest bad decision in the history of Hockey. I guess Marty was not juggling chain-saws and riding a unicycle when he got the 3 shutouts.

Disagree bud. The ducks were totally underdogs and knocked off top seeds consistently to advance a good part to J.S.G. He led in about every category so how can you say Marty deserved it so much and it was at the worst decision ever to me is mind boggling IMO. It a series trophy not just the Finals?

Disagree all you like, any goaltender that get 3 shutouts in the final 7 games should not even have to blink to win the Conn Smythe Trophy. It's not like Giguere faced a wall of rubber from the early 80's Oilers, or the early 70's Habs.
You think for one second in this year's final, that if one of the Goaltenders get's 3 shootouts, that they are giving the Conn Smythe trophy to the losing goaltender? Nope, not happening.
I am not alone in this assessment of Brodeur vs Giguere. Many Hockey purists were appalled at this. The Conn Smythe since Bettman as been around has been a popularity contest and nothing more, that's why you have somebody undeserving like Brian Leetch winning it.Last edited by centrehice; 05-31-2014 at 02:21 PM.
