Not hcky, but looking for some help about upcoming trip to PEI

Going into Yarmouth N.S., how long of a trip to Charlottetown from Yarmouth?
Know we have to take ferry across to PEI. Are reservations needed for that ferry?

wife wants to make visit to her birth place, long time since she's been back

Are you taking the ferry to Yarmouth from somewhere in Maine? There is a Bridge to PEI now, so if you have your own car, or a rental, you can drive across. Ferry ride not required.

Well from what I can tell it's in the area of 377-400 miles (depending on the site you look at ) from Yarmouth NS to Charlottetown PEI. So maybe 6 - 7 hrs driving depending where you're going in PEI. The confederation bridge goes from NB to PEI, no need for a ferry. It's a toll bridge, don't pay when you cross over, you pay the $45 when you come back across from PEI. It's a fun drive, been back and forth a couple of times

IIRC the Ferry or the bridge are the same cost, and as was already mentioned.... you only pay as you leave. For variety's sake, I'd do the ferry one way and the bridge the other.

You do not need a reservation, just show up.

You can probably imagine....

All those years they talked about a bridge, the consequence would be running the ferry out of business. That's how the didn't do it. Charge to leave, and charge the same with whatever you chose.

Canadians would willingly lose all tourism for the sake of 50 jobs. Both the Ferry and the Bridge should be free. That's how you take care of that, or both at $10.00

Tourism will take care of everything, especially there.


Just the thought of that $45.00 fee makes me never want to visit P.E.I. ever again, and I have been many times in the past.

Centrehice. PEI ferries and all ferries around the world have cost money since forever. Not sure which fairyland tale you're from, but everything cost money, especially hot spot tourism locations.

Next, as an Islander and family owner of a small resort that's been sold out the entire summer last ten years your theory on PEI tourism is right out of the I'm a Bitter Man book, chapter one-twenty.

And the thought of you never visiting PEI just made my day

Getting back on track from someone who actually knows what he's talking about, Devlin the drive from Yarmouth to PEI will be long, but it will be one of the most scenic trips you ever take. Take Confederation Bridge, you'll be blown away, be sure to have your camera ready once you get to the top of the bridge, the view of the Island is amazing. Have a great trip, you'll love it!

I've flown into PEI 6 times and once by Ferry as a kid.

Read what I posted before. Nobody can possibly defend $45.00. If so, then don't build a bridge.

When they upped the fee on the Golden Gate Bridge to $5.00 when I lived there, the Governor of California almost had to find a new job. Now it's $7.00 and he's nowhere in site. Lol.

$45.00 is a hard sell my friend.

Appreciate all the posts. We figured to take ferry from Portland to Yarmouth and take bridge to come home to Maine, then to Mass. Iguess either way it
will be a long drive, but sounds as though it is worth it. Hope I remember the time change., and kilometers, not miles.
