Tim Duncan better career than Kobe Bryant?
Now that Tim has tied Kobe in Championships who is the better player All-Time? I say Tim Duncan, what do you say?

I can't compare the two. I'm a big Spurs fan and I'll blurt out Duncan without thinking but it's dangerous comparing players careers. Especially when they don't have much in common aside from their competitive nature. Different paths, different advantages, etc.
I will say this though regarding Duncan - no one has done more with less. That says a lot in today's NBA. When you think of the heartaches he has had to witness on the court --- .4, Ginobili foul on Dirk in game 7, 2013 game 6---, you can appreciate what #5 means. He was literally few plays from possibly #8.Last edited by cgb_orl; 06-16-2014 at 05:06 PM.

I agree with everything you said. Kobe was the second best player on 3 of his 5 championships. Duncan all the way!

Duncan and Kobe highlight what it means to play in LA, with all the advertising and big brands Kobe's name is in your face all the time. So uneducated people join the KB band wagon.
Even the NBA web site is a classic for it, KB scores 40 points and he is all over the home page, in fact there's rarely a moment when there's not a hyper link on the home page about Kobe. And fair enough, he sells products, and at the end of the day it's about dollars. But if you think back through the season there was rarely a moment when SAS featured on the NBA home page, and honestly, they are just boring, nothing happens in SA.
So, who is better ?
Ask yourself this, who is knocking on the Lakers door wanting to play there ?
Even better, who has stayed there in the last ten years ?
Now ask yourself why SAS has signed no big imported stars in that time, simple, no one leaves to create that space. They love it there. Now ask yourself WHY ?
Tim is the ultimate team player, and he places no personal goal before the team.
Sound like Kobe ? No chance.
Tim is the greatest PF of all time, and he isn't finished, he could have gone higher up the All Time list, if he had played elsewhere.
For me, it's not close, Tim is better.

Considering the way Duncan won 5 with respect for his franchise, his coach, his teammates and his city on and off the court, I would say Duncan has been a greater champion than Kobe. Both guys had a lot of help in their title runs but Duncan never appeared to be bigger than the team at anytime in his career unlike Kobe.

I am a huge Laker fan but I have to say Duncan is in the ellite. He is definitely a lucky ray allen shot last year and a derek fisehr .03 shot from 7 titles. At least I don't have to hear about Lebron 2 0ut of 5 he is not even close to Duncan or Kobe.Heck he is not even in Robert Horry status.Perfect example of overblown ESPN coverage

What I find disappointing is how ex players rave about Kobe.
Be honest and ask some tough questions guys.
I compare Tim to Bill Russell and Kobe to Michael.
The first two are just about winning, no fighting in public or throwing punches at team mates.
How often we say Wilt was better than Russell, maybe Bill like Tim was only focused on winning, while Wilt looked to score on and off the court.

I still think Kobe has had a much better career than Duncan. Duncan might be a better player all time than Kobe but that's because you are getting into the position and height difference. It is hard to compare a guy playing guard to basically a center versus a guard and guard comparison.

And even with his height Tim Duncan has played in a team concept basketball his whole career.Kobe has taken over many games in the playoffs and finals because he had to.
