Best TTM Signers?

Okay to start this off, I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I figured you guys could help me out a bit.

I'm new to TTM and I really want to get into it so I have a few questions to ask.

1. Who are the best hockey TTM signers?

2. Do I have a better shot sending to retired players or current players?

3. How do you send your cards so they don't get damaged?

4. How many stamps do you use on your envelope?

5. Do they ever write back?

6. What should I put in my letter?

I already sent one to Yashin and Toews but I haven't gotten anything back yet. I wrote a letter, included a SASE and I put old "decoys" on top and on the bottom of my cards so they didn't get damaged.
